Hey everyone, need some help with this title question. I recently noticed one of the LEDs in my 3rd brake light is burned out. I was looking into buying another one on ebay and came across a couple e63 3rd brake lights. I did some research and know this swap/mod has been done before. So is the 07-09 w211 3rd brake light a simple plug and play install on the E55 without any error messages or wiring complications? Or should I just go with a 03-06 w211 3rd brake light? Any help with this matter is greatly appreciated!

They will fit. I do have an extra one from an E55 OEM one with the Mercedes stamp on it (star in the center on the red lens). $75 shipped if you need it

Is there a difference in the appearance of the light?

Thanks for the info and offer. I found a oem 07 version for a great price also. Curious to see the slight difference. Thanks again.

It appears the only change is the gasket (with some saying the E55 unit fit better on an E55, go figure). And the 2007+ has half as many led's, but overall same brightness. The change would make the part cheaper to produce (one of the goals of the 2007+ W211, to reduce build costs), but also make the third light less of a rectangular light and more of a light strip.
