C63 Mufflers - TOO LOUD. Anyone...
Has anyone installed a 3rd muffler in place of the resonator?
There is a thread on the C63 form of guys doing this after installing headers...
I installed the c63 mufflers and resonator last week. Sounds awesome at low RPM but at WOT a bit much (understatement) for my liking...
I will post video's but no difference in what others have posted (do a search on "E55 with c63 muffler fly by")...
Thanks

I don't think I've seen anyone do that on the E55's. I have C63's and prior to my long tubes I had (Secondary Cat + Resonator Delete + H-Pipe to C63's). I didn't mind the loud part...just was too raspy for my taste.
I now have ARH LT's (with HiFlow Cats) with X-Pipe to stock resonator to C63's. The sound is much better so a lot may be having the X-Pipe closer to the headers than where my h-pipe was.

Viewing Enjoyment (turn your volume way up as that is how it sounds in real life - it sounds a bit better if you wear headphones or connect it to a bluetooth speaker)

Pull #3 "Pull with 707 HP 6-Speed Mopar" The Mopar is making all the noise...
*****I got this clip from my brother in law (I don't know where he got it and didn't ask). The the rumor is it was a pull from 40-99 (kilometers of course). Rumored E55 mods were 168 crank pulley, headers, tune, and upgraded H/E with engine bay tank****

Anyway, people "gut" their E55 mufflers. I wonder if it is possible to (maybe not be the best choice of words) "pack" or "insulate" the c63 muffler housing with whatever material comes in it?
A guy on the C63 forum suggested that PERHAPS bigger exhaust tubes might help?

Were the windows of the car open? Either way "super loud" is an understatement...

Thanks for the replies. Surprised no feedback or comments on the 3rd video...

Here's a link to a DIY I saw on doing all this. It doesn't seem too hard as long as you have a welder to weld everything back up. I hope it helps.

My mufflers are stock with the baffles deleted. It's not as loud as a C63 but it's nice and loud @ WOT and at idle and cruising it has low rumble to it. I also have the resonator delete but still have the secondary cats.

The difference in price makes it a no brainer for me. Although I do love the sound of the C63 mufflers more. NOTHING like it!

How do I change the topic or delete the post?
Needless to say I have changed my tune.
Everyone who hears the car loves the sound. 75 degrees today. All the windows open. No need for music...
Loud? A bit but "nasty"...

i have long tubes with x pipe on my E63. factory mufflers but resonator delete.
daily driving its either perfect or a touch too loud depending on my mood for the day. full throttle is perfect, it barks and screams to the heavens.
some days i wish the daily driving rumble was a touch louder...but generally its just right. can be crazy loud if you dip into the throttle quickly though.
in hind sight...i'd say its a good idea to keep the factory exhaust system if going long tubes, but throw in a electronic cut out. would i have done it differently knowing this? dunno...

You can always replace the resonator with something that will more muffle the sound. Vibrant has a line of resonators from quiet to ultra quiet.
This is an example of the ultra quiet:

PM'ed you, but figured I'd post here too. Here is a decent comparison on mine which I think is perfect now. My car was actually perhaps louder and more raspy with my old set-up which was stock headers (no secondary cats or resonator) with a H-pipe closer to the C63 mufflers.
Existing Exhaust Set-up:
ARH LT's --> 200 Cell Cats --> X-Pipe --> Stock Resonator --> C63 Mufflers
2nd Gear Pull (road was a bit bumpy for traction)
Moderate Launch for another take

Thanks a ton for this.
It is always difficult to get the full "picture" but based on what I am hearing the sound is still aggressive but the "choppiness" of the c63 mufflers has subsided?
Again, thank you for the post!
