This *** NEW Clearcoat...
I called TWO mercedes-benz dealers and NEITHER one wants to fix the car. They both said that the process is TOO NEW and that I have to wait 6 to 8 months
before they will paint it. Apperently the clearcoat is ceramic and it has to be baked on at 450 degrees. The wheel needs to be ordered from Germany and it will take about a month to get that.Anyone else have this problem???
Thanks,
ROB
I had to have a portion of the front bumber repainted and it looks great. It could be that the bumber does not have or need this process (like the hood) or that the 2003 did not have ceramic clearcoat.
However, I did replace my front rim and it cost me 795 and took 5 days to receive.

Maybe when they tested 150 cars it didn't occur to them to wreck one and consider the A/B shop repair? I find it entirely likely to believe that repair technology isn't *yet* on a par with manufacturing technology.

Seriously though, there is something fishy, it's a Benz, and it's the dealers fault they can't keep up with the technology that Mercedes is developing!

Geee.... Whats going to happen when they need to paint a part of the car that can't be detached from the rest.... 450 degrees is going to be real hard on your interior and other electronics when they have to cook the whole thing... I think I smell some bull****.....
If there is any plastic or interior pieces on the part that needs to be repainted it ALL must be disassembled. This is a pain in the ***. I asked if just a new trunk decklid could be ordered already prepainted and MBUSA said no. The blemish is about the size of the tip of your pinky.
My dealers NEVER heard of this until about 3 weeks ago when they received a TSB on the ceramic clearcoat. If your paint code has the "C" then it means you have the Ceramic clearcoat.
2 dealers don't want to touch it and a third NEVER called me back.

Strangely it is only listed under the 2003+ E320 and E500. I think the Webmaster is asleep and forgot to add wheels to the W211 E55 section.
The product is actually made by PPG - maybe they can help.
If it's a small nick then I wouldn't pressure everyone about getting it repainted this instant. True, it is new technology that is rolling out and if two dealerships say the can't do it and it's 6-8 weeks, then wait it out. I would assume that there will be new equipment used and maybe a slightly different painting procedure. There is alos is a whole write-up about the paint technology on www.GermanCarFans.com a while back.
The wheel is a different story. Sorry to hear about the wheel.
?Have you guys ever heard of Tire Rack? You can get that wheel tomorrow for:
front 18X8 $449
rear 18X9 $489

Now if I can get this paint problem fixed I will be OK.

Edit: I see you have silver. The light will not be as big a deal.
