Hey guys, first off Hello! I'm new here but have had many Mercs (2006 E55 just got delivered yesterday from Texas).

It has keyless-go but only activates the rear doors, the front doors won't auto-unlock?? I haven't checked fuses yet but ANY info from you would be greatly appreciated. BTW, either the 3rd brake light or brake light switch needs replacing if that helps at all.

Do you mean that the door handle won't unlock the car or the key won't open the car remotely? If it is not unlocking by touching the handle, then handles are known to become damaged by moisture and the microswitches get fried. You can replace the entire handle unit easily and they come painted. Someone did a DIY opening the handle and replacing the switches and resealing, which is pretty complicated but cheaper.

If the key won't open the front doors when you press the unlock button on the key, then I think you need someone with the proper diagnostic tools.

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks Dublinoh, the remote works fine. It's when trying to unlock and open the front doors just by touching them that they won't unlock. The rear doors are properly doing the job though.

The third brake light problem is probably one of the ground wires on the trunk hinge. I think there is a thread on this.

Try checking huskerparts.com, the door handles are not cheap, I'd just replace the driver's side, but as Plutoe said, the best way to know is with a scan as it could be an antenna. You can try a cheap x431 Launch EasyDiag Plus scanner, about $48 on ebay but it gets shipped from china so it takes a while. The plus version comes with software for 2 vehicle manufacturer and so far it works on both of my cars.

I'm no mechanic, but you should be able to replace the handles and fix your problem. Search the forum or utube for a DIY, seems very easy just have to watch that the screw that holds the handle doesn't fall out in the door.

Also it seems like I read about a wire breaking under the shifter trim that can mess up the push button start. Again learn the search function, it's very helpful.

Good advice from others to get your car scanned before throwing parts at the problems.

Are you saying that the front doors neither lock or unlock? First try a fresh battery in the fob and hold the fob next to the door, a phone can block the signal or whatever metal you might have in your pocket. If both doors don't unlock/lock, then it's possible its the antenna, otherwise if one locks but doesn't unlock or vice versa, then it's probably the door handle. As I said earlier, only way to really tell is to get it scanned.
