If you don't need to contend with much poor or wet weather the PSS is definitely going to be a sportier tire with more grip.

Good point. I don't drive it in bad weather.

PSS have very good reviews on this site. I run Conti DW and like them. They came with the car and since newer mustangs and camaros are running them they have dropped 50% in price

If you can hold out a little longer I would. Here's why, the PS4S is being released in March and it is reported to be the "new" PSS. That said, you would have the opportunity to purchase a better overall tire, at least according to the marketing department. Second, with the release of the PS4S, the price of the PSS will most likely drop as they clear inventory and switch over to the PS4S. So, you could get a better deal on the PSS.
As of right now, sizes are limited for the PS4S, so check that first.

Another vote for Pilot Sport AS3+....recommended if you plan on driving on them year round. I don't see where you're located in the US and that may play a part in your decision.

The AS3+s grip amazingly well....especially vs. my previous Continental DWS06s. I shopped both the Super Sport and the AS3s and due to concerns with sub-40 degree driving in the SSs, I decided on the AS3s. I drive my E55 during sunny, dry....but cold days here in Missouri and the 'reduced' traction that others have seen on sub-40 degree temps scared me away from the 'summer tires'. I run 255/40s in front and 275/35s out back.

The PS4S that Lowprofile mentioned sounds amazing too -

I would go with the A/S3's if they would last considerably longer with minimal grip reduction compared to the PSS. I'm in CO and I do occasionally drive on cold, dry days but it's just to go do burnouts! I got the car a year and half ago with cheap tires on it(Accelera) and after 8k they're showing cords. I'd like to feel the acceleration with something like the PSS. I would love to hear feedback from someone who's had some combination of Conti DW's, PSS, and A/S3's for comparison. I don't DD it but may find myself in the occasional summer sometime.

How bad do they get? Can you drive cautiously or on the verge of being undriveable?

I experienced the latter racing Karts years ago early spring in CO. Went for a warm up lap, barely faster than jogging speed approaching the 1st corner, turned the wheel and the Kart went straight off as if I was on ice.

Had them on the front when I got the car. I'm sure they are good from what I hear. I have 6k on the conti's and they are still new. I have not witnessed the massive tire wear others claim. My rears were pretty new 10k ago and they are good for another 10k. They look fine. Most members are going through tires every 3-6kmiles . Basically I have no reason to change to another brand. If you want rears to grip at low speeds in the cooler weather then ET streets or wrinkle walls are your only option. With those rain is not possible if you value your car. I lost a Camaro SS running them. Won't do it again

Rubber seems to get hard when the temp lowers and the E63 likes to make them spin at will.
Summer only
Winter is for hibernation in the garage, stored

I love PSS. But I also drive in Chicago. The car is worthless in rain or below 45 or so degrees with those tires. Other than that, they are fantastic. Haven't run the other tires.

I also agree to wait for the new PS4S tires if possible. I'm not so optimistic about when they'll ship and already have another pair of PSS sitting in the garage for spring.

One of the things I like about the PSS is that they are very quiet. Even when spinning on pavement. No obnoxious squeals.

I bought 19" Pilot Sport A/S 3 tires. More practical for me in rainy Seattle, but awesome grip at the same time.

To think I might get 15-20k miles on one set is tempting. I assume not many burnouts or drag strip trips?

I see pricing comparable to PSS. Where did you purchase them?

I just put a set of A/S 3s on and love them. I bought them through special order at Sams Club and even got written warranty on them. Since they are Staggered the warranty is half the original manufacture warranty. Still warranty is better than none at all.. I believe it is 10k miles on rear tires and 15k miles on front.

I have been running AS3s. After almost 20k miles, replaced them with AS3+. Very happy with them. Selected the AS3+ over the PSS primarily because of treadwear rating. I'm very impressed with their performance on dry pavement.

Others have mentioned that the new PS4

If you can wait, you should. Good luck!

Not that bad, but braking distances increase dangerously. Summer only tires really should be used above 45 degrees F.
