285 40 18 Drag Radial Fitment

Has anyone ran this size tire on a stock E55 wheel at stock height? I'm read to order tires, but I'm afraid they will rub. MT discontinued the 265 40 18 that worked great.

I'm looking to use a stock wheel. It seems people are hooking on a 35 series tire, but I'd rather have a 40 if it will fit. From the research I have done it looks like a BFG 275 35 18 maybe my best bet.

Thanks guys

It seems like all the drag radial sizes are no longer made that fit on these cars. What are you guys using??? Are you all on smaller wheels?

From my reading most run a clk 16" rear wheel due to weight with a 255 series super sticky hoosier or mickey T

If you want to stick with stock wheels you might consider the Hoosier DOT Drag Radial in 245/40-18. It'll fit on a 9" rim, the diameter is close to our stock tires, but its tread width is about .5" narrower than the popular 255/50-16 that we run on the CLK wheels. And of course it's got 1" less sidewall, but it may be the best drag tire you can fit on stock wheels.

I like to keep stock height tire. 40 is essentially making the gear ratio longer. You could trap lower too. I ran 35 and top end felt great.

I may have screwed myself. I ordered the 285 40 18s from MT. I was following a friends thread about his E55 on Facebook. Someone in Chicago posted with pictures saying the 285s fit perfect with no rubbing. I got excited and ordered.

I looked again at another picture he posted later in the thread. Turns out he has a C63. I guess I'll find out. I crawled under my car and it does not look too tight, but I guess I will find out.

JoeJErnst is spot on the 245/40/18 will work.

lazie12g the 285/40/18 MT's will work and you will love them!

I just put 315/30/18 Hoosier Drag Radials on 9.5" CLS rims (the look just like the stock E55 rims just .5" wider with ET28). I run them 7/24/365 as a 3rd car I rarely drive. No rubbing and the car might as well be AWD on the street.
