E55 2004 order turned into 2005

Just received a call with good/bad news. Bad news is my 04 e55 order scheduled to be build April 10-15 has been delayed as it did not meet the 05 cut-off. The good news is I will receiving an 05 version with shipment in early July. This led me to ask a few questions I read in this forum.

1) I asked about price increase and the dealer committed to the 04 price as ordered.
2) I asked about maintenance and he stated it didn't beleive MB was moving to a "charge as your receive service"model as it would be bad press for them. He also elaborate that the e55 hasn't had many problems (more with the S) even though MB in general is now having more quality issues because they are embracing new technology faster instead of only integrating it after years of testing, which is why MB cars traditional didn't have all the latest technology amentities. He was going to investigate the service question and confirm for me.
3) I asked asked about the rumor of no longer selling the tectite grey color which he denied as it is one of their most popular colors.

That seems odd. My E55 is scheduled for the end of this month. No problems so far. I thought they shut down in June for the change-over.

If that free scheduled maintenance is important to you, then make sure you talk to the sales manager and make sure it wont be deleted from the program come 05. It will be unfortunate for you to take your futur E55 in for service and have then charge you thinking it was free.

Tectite is the most beautiful color in my opinion, mercedes you be stupid if they got rid of it. and if they did i would not be surprised if they simply changed the name of it. good luck

I have learned to never believe the first thing they tell you. His story may change as the date of your car's arrival approaches. Don't let him pull any crap. Keep hounding the dealer every week if not every day. It's his job to sell you the car the way you want it.

Funny that you should print this today- just got a call from my dealer saying that I'm too late for an 04 and that I won't be able to get Tectite for 05! I'm pissed too, as I think that it is the best color apart from the Grey in the Designo package (but I'm not about to pay a 5600 premium for a color). Hopefully the rumored replacement grey will be close to Tectite. The printed 05 order guides have hit the dealerships, but they do not include the color palettes- they will follow. I've also been told that some of the option packaging is changing for the worse as well, e.g., the Comfort Seating package is once again unbundled as it was in 03. No word on my end about the much discussed warranty/service coverage changes-only shock from my dealer about what we have seen here in print. Time will tell...

2002 E55, Brilliant Silver/Charcoal and Grey, All option except Parktronic.
I am in the same position with a now 05 arriving sometime in June. There seems to be no accurate information other than the forum hearsay.
I would be more interested in having the 7-speed in the car than any particular color combination. I may, of course, be insane because I am ordering mine in Granite Grey/Charcoal.
I would like to have some ideas on what to do with my 02. I just like that car so much. I am afraid that the new one will not be a panzer like the 02.
I do like this forum as there is a variety of useful information.

Lindross,

I hate to disagree, but I have the Netstar printout that states color code 753 (Tectite Grey) will be converted to color code 368 (Flint Grey) for MY05. I would investigate a little bit further on that one & make sure they don't pull a fast one!!

Thanks. Do you know if Flint Grey is close to Tectite or is simply a name change? If it is close, I'd probably be comfortable. I have a 02 Sterling Grey M5 which has been a great color - both from a maintenance perspective and its dual personality during the day versus night. Tectite is a bit darker so I'd like to order something close. I do like the Designo Grey edition (whatever it is called) but not sure it is worth the additional 5K. If you have any 05 documents or web sites that provide color samples, please let me know.

Just had a Granite Grey E500 join the stable and I tell you it is a great color. Do not think twice about it for I swear it is one of the best colors offered on the car. When freshly waxed (as my cars often are) the car has a shine unlike the other colors and it changes shade with lighting making it very dynamic. Great pick for your E55! I have a Pewter Silver E55k and I am thinking about Tectite Grey for my next car unless I get a 05 build date in which case I will be ordering Flint Grey.

Enjoy the car!

darn it

So will Tectite still be an option until flint grey comes to market? Or will there be no dark grey until Flint grey is production ready?

This happened to me when I ordered a W203 in 2002. Alabaster white was the new color I wanted to try and it was not ready for production until September and the car was delivered in June. Then the car showed up Silver and I was a bit shocked as I stood there at the VPC center waiting for the keys.

So looks like I need to hope for a 04 production slot for I really want a Tectite Grey on Black/Red leather car.

lets meet sometime...

t-bone,

I would love to go for a ride in your RENNtech car if you ever have a chance. I have a stock E55 right now and I will be driving RENNtechs E500k in the near future and I want to see how your car stacks up against the other two. Clearly it will be the fastest but I want to get a feeling for the strengths of each car. THe E500k does weigh 200 lb less than the AMG car so I am very interested in how that car drives.

Thanks

E-Mail me @ CynCarvin32@aol.com if you could

So since we have similar tastes I need your opinion. My car is 05 build and Flint Grey does not go into production until september I hear. So Those two colors are out of the question.

I have a Granite Grey and a Pewter Silver car already so what colors should I be looking at? Seen anything nice? Dont want a black car again for they are truely a pain to keep clean and swirl free (no so sure on nano paint--- time will tell on the Pewter and Granite Grey cars).

Am I crazy to even look at a Alabastar White E55? Silver is so plain but I am back to not having any silver MB's in the drive so I could get Silver (but every amg is silver these days).

Ideas ? Anyone?

Thanks!

P.S I like the Merlot/Black leather so no green E55

I think that a Bordeaux red with the Merlot inserts would be stunning. There is a picture of a similar combination on a W210 somewhere on this site that is quite pretty.

I was also thinking of Midnight blue with the blue inserts.

Just some ideas.

I have a May build date. I have not heard from my dealer.

Can anyone tell me if I should be expecting an 05 which will necessarily be delayed?

Also anyone know the differences between 04 and 05?

Checked again today with dealer. My 04 ordered that was turned to a 05 for delivery in July is still Tectite Grey. We seem to be hearing different answers. Where do we find the truth direct from MB? I'll probably order desingo Granite (one can order the color without the entire package for a charge) or Granite Grey which is very similar to my Sterling Grey M5. Who doesn't like silver but such a common color. The pewter has a bit to much beige in it for my liking. The black opal also seems like a great color? Quite the delimma here...

2004 order turned into 2005

Just came back from the dealer and my order went in today. I have the netstar printout and according to my dealer I will get a 2004 model in Tectite grey just as I ordered. I have a second decade in May build date with delivery around the end of June or early July.

My dealer restated yesterday my order has indeed been changed to a 2005 and I am still getting Tectite Grey as ordered. It may be this color is not available on new orders at this point.

It doesn't matter much to me whether it is 2004 or 2005 but I did want the Tectite grey color so I am glad to hear you are still getting that color even on the 2005.
