Star Lowered - car lowering on its own

hey guys i recently picked up another e55 ..this is now my 3rd one ..im addicted to this car

neither of my previous 2 were lowered, so this part is new to me. previous owner lowered it with STAR & car sits on stock 18's.
previous owner said he drove the car in the raised position mostly to avoid damaging CF front lip. its sits pretty low in the front in its lowest setting

while on the highway, i drive with the car in the raised position, but when i drive the car fast or aggressively, i get a "level selection cancelled" message.
it is exactly as described in this thread:

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w211...on-normal.html

so it looks to function as it should, except i dont want it to, esp cause i plan to put 19s or 20s on soon. so, is there a way to keep it from lowering on its own? do i need an ELM ?

Have the car raised back up via SDS. If the basic point has been reset falsely low, the car will always be lower than it should be for your selected level. Have it raised to stock then use the button to lower it one notch or two, should be plenty if the car has aftermarket body parts and you are gonna change wheels.

The raised position is not meant to be used at highway speeds, which is why it cancels after traveling between 50-70mph for more than 5 minutes or above 75mph. Driving "aggressively" is not the actual trigger.

There is a way to keep STAR from auto-lowering out of the raised position, but it involves pulling fuses. If you don't want it that low, then get the STAR values reset to factory height. There is no point in having it lowered, but driving in the raised mode all the time.

i do want it low and drive it that way by where i live cause the roads are manageable .. in the city its a different story ..the roads are trash & have a lot of random dips/uneven pavement on the highway, so i want to be able to raise the car to stock height and keep it there when needed
..in the highest position it sits at stock lowered position
good to know there is a fuse pull option, ill look into this
i'll post pics tmrw of how sits at different levels , maybe i can get away with 19s the way it sits now

Unless you are planning to go with a larger wheel/tire diameter on the 19s, the height of your car doesn't matter when plus-sizing your wheels

Your owner manual explains that if you drive in the raised position that car will automatically lower itself. Here is the MB official statement according to the manual:

At a speed exceeding approximately
68 mph (110 km/h) with normal level
set or exceeding 75 mph (120 km/h)
with raised level set, the ride height is
reduced automatically.

With decreasing speed, the ride height

is again raised to the normal level.

My car was lowered with Star, and I have to raise my car every time, when going thru car washes, as my CF splitter sits really low. And I also take in consideration steep approaches and exiting of driveways, shopping centers etc. But having your suspension values restored to factory, will nullify your current issues.

While we are on the topic, can you choose your height of the car with SDS?

What's the lowest you can take it stock?

You can take it low enough for that gangster look. But my technician, said with it that low you risk blowing out and air spring or air strut. As there isn't enough air, in the strut or spring to absorb a bad impact from the road.

The answer is yes, just by entering values into Star, you can adjust your ride height. I have 19" wheels so, I wanted a more aggressive stance compared to factory.

I guess a better way to form my question was can you choose the height yourself or is it just two options (lowest possible and stock)

No, you can choose your ride height by entering the value perimeters into Star. But if you are asking can you enter different values for each ride dampening settings (C, S, S+) then the answer is no. The dampening settings (C, S, S+) has nothing to do with ride height, they essentially set the compression and rebound in the shocks. Basically your enter a value, that tells the computer in the car it's riding to high, therefore that car lowers itself to that value.

Gotcha, it makes sense. You're just setting height boundaries not stiffness.
