is W210 E55 comparable to BMW 00 540i?

 

I wouldn't think so. The E55 have much more HP. Maybe a W210 E55 vs a 00 M5

 

Acceleration is a function of the torque the engine produces, not HP.

acceleration=force/mass (there is a constant in there to deal with the dimensions)

That is why our beloved E55s give us the rush that they do; massive torque.

Most of the 540i & M5 drivers cannot overcome the SNG E55 tranny. The stoplight grand prix is won by torque & transmission manipulation.

My wife drives a BMW 540 and it's certainly no slug, but it's not at the same level as the W210 E55. Just the other day she borrowed my car and complained that she nearly spun out because she stepped on the gas too hard during a corner.

The automatic 540 is a low 6 second 0-60 car. The 6 spd manual sport model 540 is a mid to high 5 second car, as tested by most car mags. The W210 E55 is a high 4 second, low 5 second 0-60 car. (MotorTrend got 4.8 seconds in their '99 test and then 4.99 seconds in their '02 test of the E55, Road & Track recorded 5.1)

You arent serious are you....my good friend has a every piece of Dinan aftermaket (minus the supercharger) on his 00 6 speed and I absolutely crush him from the line, from a roll, from anywhere in the powerband...and he hates it....his brother has an identical E55 to mine and we make fun of him...hes the only BMW driver in his family....as a side note... I have raced my share of M5's as well and I have NEVER been beaten, then again I have never taken one either, its always a crazy even pull until the other chickens out or we run out of road....and I have had my *** handed to me by many other cars....just not by a BMW... yet

Speed aside, I personally would rather have the 540 between these two cars. A great car for the money. Only when both brands changed their styling...Mercedes for the better and BMW for the worse, and an incredible power plant was inserted in the E55 did it become no contest, even against the M5. Don't mean to knock the W210. Just really loved BMW's till the whole equation changed.
