Possible failing head gasket?

Ok so about 6 months ago I got a low coolant warning and put some distilled water in the reservoir to bring g it up to full. Well just the other day I got low coolant warning again. Put some MB coolant in. I did a quick look around coolant hoses and don't see a leak. Does anyone have suggestions on where to look for common leaks. If I can't find a leak I am thinking maybe I have a slight head gasket leak that might be leaking small amounts of coolant into a cylinder, which really scares me.

You could do an oil analysis to test for coolant/oil contamination.

You need to have the cooling system pressure tested. It will show where the leak is.

A symptom of head gasket failure is engine missing or white moisture build up on the oil fill cap. water mixing with oil will show a buildup on the dip stick tube if equipped.

avoid driving it until it is resolved.

Cheers, Gator

There is no coolant getting into the oil. I do an analysis through Blackstone with every fluid change.

I had this happen to me twice. I discovered the first leak while removing the supercharger to install a larger throttle body and noticed moisture in the valley. You may have to apply new sealing tape to the threads of the hot and cold nipples of your intercooler. I did that and installed new hoses and clamps as well and it resolved my issue.

The second time came when the power steering high pressure hose joint opened a small hole in a coolant pipe and caused a small leak, but only under pressure. I replaced the pipe and wrapped it with a rubber hose to prevent it from happening again. See below.

Another sign of a failed head gasket is the compression pressurizes the cooling system and blows coolant out of the reservoir whilst not contaminating the oil. Happened to me on an inline 4-cylinder engine.

Have never seen a head gasket fail on one of these cars or any m112/m113. Ever. I recommend a proper diagnosis as speculating gets you nowhere.

Get under the car early in the morning before startup when its cold and check every hose connection, reservoir, plus the area around the water pump.

this is one of the worst problem wich one can face. no traces visually except for refilling the cooling reservoir. I give u one advice.

check transmission cooling lines and cooler, or the hoses to the radiator, check everything wich get cooling water to it.

good luck mate

so did a pressure test today. found the leak. the lower hose on the reservoir, which I believe goes to the radiator. leaking from the connection between the hose and reservoir, either the spring clamp is not holding tight enough, or the nipple may have cracked. I had to pump it up over 25 psi to get it to start leaking.

But I'll bet that is a relief. Sounds very fixable. . .

it is, but I was also looking to use "not being able to find a leak" as an excuse to trade this and to move up to a w212 either e63 or I was even looking at the 4.7TT E550s simple EC or Renntech tune will get 500+ WHP I believe.
