Drag strip warriors - please critique me?

Would love some feedback from vets on this slip?

This is an SL55 with 83mm pulley, and RENNtech airbox+ HE. Ambient temp was 75 degree, and 4805 lbs car, with me in it.

Launch issues would improve 60'? hoping to install Quaife this week and see if it helps. and maybe be more civil with throttle on initial launch

relatively low trap speed? but good ET? is that an indication of IAT being too hot toward the end and timing pulled?

Any feedback is welcome

SMH

Not sure where you're getting this number from, with such confidence, but base curb weight of the SL55 is 4365, I weigh 195, that leaves 245 pounds, probably divided between extra options that I added on top of (Pano, distronic, spoiler, additional cooling and coolant, phone modules, linguatornic, aftermarket audio, and tons and tons of dynamat to further insulate the interior...)

I think the amp rack I have alone, is 40-45lbs... crap does adds up quick

I ll post the scale receipt next week if still in doubt (left it at the office)

I think your 4250 is a pipe dream haha. OP's numbers sounds much more accurate with driver, gas, and options.

Edmunds has the 2005 SL55 AMG curb weight at: 4235 lbs. (copy and paste).
My 2006 CL55 AMG weighed 4300 lbs. I've deleted the heavy ABC system in favor of the much lighter Yellow Speed Sport coil-overs. This plus the wheels that are nearly half the weight of stock wheels, lighter exhaust and other deleted components has it 4000 lbs.
Car and Driver has the 2003 CL65 at 4800 lbs. (copy and paste).
Your SL55 AMG is closer to 4200 lbs. More if you added items.

Sounds to me like he actually weighed the car with him in it while you're just quoting numbers from the internet.

That's exactly what I did, and got 4805lbs, but as we all know, the internets is a series of tubes, and if your internets says the car is 4200 lbs, you just believe it, despite your own hands own observation,

and as we all know, automotive journalism is known for its absolute accuracy, just like the internets...

Here is the car's placard, I will post the scale receipt of the scale reading, hopefully that end the bull crap conversation about weight, and get us back on track with ET analysis...

If I were you, the next two purchases would be:

1. A set of drag radials. (I like the Hoosiers on CLK wheels for the E55; not sure if they fit your car)
2. An ELM327 OBDII reader and an app for your phone so you can see actual IATs during the run.

Your slip looks pretty decent for a car on street tires. Do you know what the Density Altitude was when you ran? That will come in handy when trying to make comparisons.

Thank you sir! Finally some useful feedback!

As far as tire, the SL comes stock with 285/35/18, so I had hard time finding Hoosier tire that will give more grip, while keeping overall diameter and width the same, and even harder time finding 16" or 17" wheels that would be wide enough, any suggestions?

I am using Garmin GPS to get live data and gauges, would the ELM app log a continuous graph?

This is how I got the numbers i quoted for IAT

It looks like there is at least one other SL55 running the 16" CLK wheels with the Hoosier DOT Drag radials: https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...-pics-etc.html

That will be your best bet for traction.

I use DashCommand on my iPhone (others use Torque on Android), which allows you to log your runs and play them back. It's very cool and I think cost me under $25 for the ELM327 with WiFi and the app.

I didn't see your quoted IAT numbers in the original post.

Thank you for the wheel/tire tip, I will look into it for sure.

IAT wise, my bad, I thought I did post numbers, I mixed up posts, IAT started at 95 (20 above ambient), and peaked at 153 in the last couple of seconds of the run, yet recovered back to sub 100 before the end of the brake zone.

That's exactly what I would see in my car with the PLM H/X.

Given the high weight of the SL (my race weight on the E55 is ~4400 lbs with me and a full tank of gas), I think your MPH is exactly what you would expect for that setup, assuming a DA of somewhere around 1000'.

Traction is king, so getting the drag radials is a must. Not sure if a LSD will help much to reduce the ETs, although it will make for better consistency. Maybe look at long tube headers and/or 77mm pulley next. Also a Killer Chiller will shave at least a tenth off the ET and also improve consistency.
