Belt Squeak

Hey all,

Just rebuilt my double idler pulley, now my main belt squeaks for about 25 seconds on startup, then quiets down. Any idea what could cause that? Should I replace the drive belt?

Thanks

funny this came up. I replaced all of my pullies with UPD pullies and both new belts and after 6 months or so I now have squeel at startup. Super frustrating. I'm going to actually pull the belts this weekend and check the pullies individually.

Yeah I think pulley alignment can cause it too.

New belt fixed the squeal, the old was cracked and had a couple chunks missing. That said, changing that belt is not fun. Very little room to work.

Wow how did a 6 month old belt get so bad so quickly?

I fought this like crazy. Come to find out, all upd pulleys must have snap ring facing forward. I kept replacing belts and everything else. All started when alternator failed. I mistakenly put one of the double roll pulleys backwards.

My belt was the one replaced less than 6 months ago. It is still in perfect condition. The OP did not mention belt age prior.

Not sure where you got that my belt was 6 mo old, it looked original. I have all factory pulleys, btw. Except for the one I rebuilt, it has a dayco composite pulley behind the OEM metal one. The old one shattered when I dropped it, so it definitely needed some love.

As an aside, I did my S/C belt a couple months back, it still looks good.
