I Have A Dell D630 What Next

I have aquired a Dell d630 and I want to purchase the star diagnostic program. What is my next move? Saw some equipment for sale on Alibaba and Ebay but I still do not know which one to pull the trigger on. C3 vs C4......help!

I have a brand new C4 the good quality one with all the caps and chips. It's brand new in the package. I could give you a good deal on it. After that you would need the cable to your obd2 and the software. Otherwise you could buy the whole kit minus the computer which you already have on eBay and they will give you the hard drive to put in the system and then they remote in and activate it all to that computer.

The last thing I want is someone in China logging into my computer to activate it.

There are other alternatives and, FWIW, I use a Dell 5500, not a D630.

C3 is clunky but it works. For short-term work, I use an iCarSoft reader.

This is the route I went, except no one remoted in. I just sent them my laptop's info, and they sent me the activation codes for the various apps.

To bbirdwell's point though, you probably don't want to be doing your finances or logging into sensitive sites on your STAR laptop. I've gone so far as to create a dummy gmail account on mine to use exclusively on that computer.

Maybe if they were logging onto your home or work computer but my Star computer is only used for Star.. also they do this for a living and you can watch everything they do as they do it.

There are C3, C4, mbsdconnect c4, c5. Here a comparison table.

Personally, recommend sdconnectc4. Work fine like a charm.

Yep, that sdconnect4 looks like it would be great! I really do not need the rest of the cables though so I thought the C3 would be okay. Bear with me as I am new to this star diagnostic stuff.

My car has a small evap system leak that I have not been able to track down. Trips the CEL every two or three months. The Xentry system, although extremely powerful, takes a good 15 minutes to set up and tear down. Using the iCarSoft, I can check the code, confirm it is that PITA small evap system leak, and clear the code in about a minute and a half.

Always good info shared in these threads on the various systems and the pros/cons of each.
