Dealership cannot diagnose engine no start

Dealership cannot diagnose engine no start

The engine starts up and misfires, then it stalls. The dealership wants to charge me over 600 dollars just to diagnose, they already stole 200 from me for a failed diagnosis.

The tech says the battery is bad, however that the engine may be experiencing the headbolt issue?

Also stating that the electrical systems are normal, and everything looks fine externally?

This car is going to a small shop next week for a diagnosis. The dealerships never really seem to know exactly what they are doing.

If you are concerned about headbolts then get the coolant system pressure tested and perform a leak down test. Or remove the valve covers and have a look.

That's what the dealership wanted 500 dollars for. I'm going to take it to a small shop and have them diagnose the cause. I have a hard time believing it's the headbolts causing a misfire. Is it possible? They are basically hinting to me that the engine is blown which I find very hard to believe.

Coolant in the combustion chamber, yes I believe it can cause misfire. Just make sure they inspect the cams and lifters while the valve covers are off.

all 8 cylinders misfiring...Will update next week. Scary stuff

No just the affected ones I would have thought. Unless the timing is completely off then the rest should be ok. Does the engine turn over fine by hand?

I agree, exactly my thought. Yes the engine does turn over smoothly and it fires up except it runs as if all 8 cylinders are missing. They did inform me the battery is original and has gone bad, but they swear that's not the issue...
