My first AMG

Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum and just joined the AMG club with the purchase of a 2005 E55. Man what an amazing car. I got it as a project car, it needs a new crankshaft. The previous owner has a shop install a pinned lower pulley and it came loose. The snout looks a little scored doubt it can be reused so I plan on removing the motor and replacing the crank.
if anyone has a crank and pulley for sale let me know!!

Yep the exhaust, not sure yet if I like it or not... I may try and find a bumper and put it back to factory.

I think that style of exhaust outlet looks ok on some vehicles. A Mercedes isn't one of them.

Does the bumper still have the cutouts for the exhaust?

No they are removed I'm not a huge fan either good thing silver E55s are plentiful. I should begin pulling the motor this week I may do a thread on it. Ive got some experience in the LS world I have a foxbody drag car I put a ls turbo in it so some wrenching experience. I'm excited to learn something new and I'm hoping I get some help on the forums here. Thankfully the engine bay looks huge plenty of room...

Can the motor be removed from the top? I'm hoping I can leave the transmission in...

These engines are pretty easy to tear down and put back together.

Im all for doing your own thing with a car but the rear bumper exit looks way out of place for a stock body

Meh...it's different but not bad. Personally I think it would look better on a black car where it is not so obvious. Color matters on stuff like this. What works on one color may not work on another. I like the idea and would consider (seriously) doing something like this on my car. Once I put the bumper back on. (Don't ask. It is embarrassing.).

I'm in central valley just south of Sacramento. For a bumper and exhaust I'd be willing to drive a ways. Also looking for a crankshaft and harmonic dampner.

Barry lives in TX.

I don't know why, but the exhaust is growing on me just a tiny bit.

Welcome aboard. This is by far the most helpful board around, MB or otherwise. I've been on Lexus, Toyota, Chevrolet, etc. and in my experience, this is the best, hands down. You'll enjoy working on your benz.

Looking forward to it. Of course the build quality surpasses anything ive ever worked on. It's going to be a good learning experience bring this thing back to life.

Are the w211 E class rear bumpers all the same? Do the E55 just have a different insert for the quad exhaust?

The E55 bumper only comes on them. A 2007-2009 E63 bumper will also bolt on.

If you think you may want to do a rear diffuser at some point, stick with the E55 bumper. The diffusers for the E63 bumper are hard to come by and very expensive, unless you want one from China.

I discovered the E class sport model cars have basically the same rear bumpers as the E55. Only difference is they don't have the cut out for the quad exhaust or the black diffuser. Got it painted to match the car and body shop trimmed the cutout. You can buy the OEM diffuser from Mercedes they go for around 90 bucks. Very happy with how it looks.

Also got some mufflers and tips. I went with borla pro xs mufflers and some 4 inch tips. I think the tips looks pretty good something different I guess.
love the way it sounds, no drone at all and just a bit raspy.

The mufflers fits really nice, they are offset on one end and center on the other. Installed them right next to the spare tire laying flat.

Like the car! I'm with the others on the side exhaust, put it back like it was.

Thanks!!! I wasn't too sure about the tips but I think they came out great. The opening is so wide I wasn't sure how a round tip would look compared to the nice factory oval tips that fill in more of the opening. Here's a few more pics of the tips.

The Borlas sound good. You should sell your license plate to a Ford Lightning now.

Did you undercoat the underside of the car? Looks good.

The previous owner did that. Not sure if I should paint the mufflers and pipes black or leave them since they are stainless no rust.

It all comes down to this really. All that matter is that you like it, forget everyone else's opinion.
