New E55 spotted at MIR drag today (11.6 @ 12x.xx)
I don't own an E55 or even a MB but I was at Maryland International Raceway today and there was a 2nd gen E55 that ran 11.6xx at 12x.xx and I wanted to know what the hell you have to do to get it that quick. You guys are really lucky to own such a beast of a car.

Maryland Int Raceway is up north right? If it's cold enough I'm pretty sure the s/c will like it.
Of course someone correct me on this. As long as they get traction they are good to go!

He was on stock tires.
I figured a chip and pulley had to be on it.
It had the stock exhaust tips, don't know if any exhaust work was done. Do they make cams for the E55 already?

To do a 11.6 would require almost 700hp. 71 F is 21 degrees C, not particularly cold. The only way the car could pull these numbers would be if it was running nitrous. Although I still don't see it putting down this sort of power on stock tyres. It is possible to get this power from the '55 but requires more than a chip and pulley.
Are you sure it wasn't an S600?

It was most definitely on stock tires. I don't know anyone who buys DR's or ET streets in such a low profile and fits them on such a large rim (they were stock).
It also was an E55 because it had the V8KOMPRESSSOR badging on the front fender.
He got kicked off the track right after his run because if you run sub 14s you need a helmet, which he didnt' have. And if you run sub 12s you need a full roll cage, which obviously he didn't put into his E55.

11.6 wouldnt be a stock car. ive made 20+ passes and with drag radials 2753518 bfgs ive only manage a 12.2 at infineon in sonoma, granted there is a head wind but no tail wind is going knock off .5 seconds off my 1/4 mile. 11.6 is awesome though!

If putting an LSD in would net 11.6sec 120mph+ runs then sign me up. Unfortunately as I stated earlier you need around 700hp to do this. (692hp actually based on a laden weight of 4200lbs)

headers?
stephens
I am a newbie here...i surf this forum a lot but i've just started to post....i see that u have experimented with ur e55k and i am wondering what your opinion is on a custom set of headers.
I put my e55 up on a lift at my buddy's supra shop and he feels that if i change the headers there is major room for improvements in power, especially cuz of the s/c'd forced induction. i think it would make sense to get better or more free flowing headers. he feels that the stock headers might be really restrictive. what do u think?

That's information about Ben Treynor's S600 that runs 11.59.
SL600 is still up in the air, Car And Drive said it did 0-60 in 3.6 seconds but
https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...600+AND+driver
offers a lot of criticism about that figure.

120mph through the traps for a 4200lb sedan is just mind boggling. That's Viper territory...
Would be interesting to know the details on that car.

The path to low low 11s
Give it a full season or 2 and I think you will see W211 E55s running LOW 11s with NO NOS, maybe high 10s with an EXCELLENT driver.
If you can cut a 1.8 60-foot at 22psi or so on the stock radials then you should be able to manage a 12.3@115 at a density altitude of 0 feet.
I'd figure the K&Ns drops ins and the snorkle mod is good for 10whp ---> 12.2@116 cost $100
Add the LSD, BFGs, and 283 gearing for the S55 and you should see 11.8@116 (no HP gained) cost $4500
Add the Evosport chip/SC pulley for 50-60 whp and you should get 11.4@120 cost TBD
Add Kleeman Headers & downpipes for 35-50 rwhp should net 11.1@123 cost $4.5k
Add an Eisman race exhuast for 22hp or 10-15 rwhp and you should see 11.0@124 cost $3k
Fix the intercooler efficienty like Stephens is working on and you could pick up another 20-30 whp and end up with ~675hp and 775 tq
note the low trap speed...the wide torque band is what is getting this ET. I have seen Cartek C5s with 500wrhp running 10.7@126 with 1.46 60-foot times. On another note my 700 rwhp/600 rwtq Supra went 10.8@136 and I have gone 12.2@114 at 2,000 ft DA in my E55 so far.
