Anyone with surviving sleeved block?

Two routes to get some more fundamentally resilient pistons.

Rods ads and crank are fine. No reason for more displacement.

Sleeved block or a nikasiled stock block.

Who has has some surviving blocks with the understanding that those who do this push more and blow things up.

I have seen many threads... few people finish the thought. Some allude to certain techniques but do not share. Few are active as they have gone on to better-supported platforms.

I am trying to find some actual data. Though because of production numbers we may simply not have enough to go on.

Nikasil allows for the forged pistons and more widely available rings. Without radical power goals (it’s a sedan, after all, not a race car) it would seem a solid step.

Who did the block? How was it done? Piston to bore clearances?

The way I see it - iron sleeves inside an aluminium casting won't last forever. Temperature expansion rates of two materials are too different. I've heard that sleeves start moving inside eventually. There's no data on that as to when it happens. Some people run moderate power, others go for more. I've got a Steve @ RED's machined and sleeved block with the Dartons. Steel billet conrods and forged 98mm pistons (+1mm to stock). I'm at 600whp at the moment with another 35% of throttle opening available (injectors maxed out). I've not had any issues yet but my car is not my daily driver and spends most of the time on the shop floor waiting for parts as it's pretty much still work in progress. If/when the block goes, I have a spare sleeved short block lying around. This is my warranty.

My thoughts exactly 👌 I've seen a few cases where press in iron sleeves in aluminum block have moved (not on E55). The darton setup is much better IMO

Steve is on my way home. I should stop by.

I appreciate the feedback. Cost can add up obviously, and if the power goals are not huge, I wonder if its worth it? Stock super charger, proper chemical and physical cooling...
