Motul 5W40 8100 X-cess
i need to do an oil change and i was at a shop a little while ago and one mechanic swore by this oil said it’s the best. I’ve read some online reviews and it seems really popular and most have really liked using it. Has anyone here had good experience with Motul 5W40 8100 X-cess ?

I use this kit (it's actually competitively priced), has part number for the mann filter. They sell a multi pack of the filters for a lot less than buying one by one, LM is my oil of choice though Motul is very good stuff

I have been a loyal liquidmoly 5w40 and absolutely love it it wks great all my blackwell labs come back great. I only use factory filter as it has the reenforced ribs to keep it from collapsing. I heard the same thing bout the motul and decided to give it a try for me an my engine wasnt the best choice. With the liquid moly i would burn maybe a quart every 4 to 5000 miles. The motul seemed to burn at a much higher rate almost a quart every 1800 to 2000 miles which is not ok for me. Switched back to liquidmoly an its back to not burning but this is just my engine so who knows how urs will react.

yes thats the one im using an so far I love it an it has great qualities. I mean i know Motul is great as well but in my engine it wasnt the right fit. I havent ever had a high oil consumption. These engines do burn oil but some are good some suck mine has always been pretty decent even using the factory oil it didnt burn it at a high rate ... but something about motul it didnt like.

did any of you ever ran into the weird situation where the car started to whine after oil change?
there is actually a post about this issue so i guess it is pretty common, ppl said its the oil pump but have not figured out why and how to stop it..

Another vote for the Liquid Moly 5W-40 in the bluish purple jug.
Recently switched over from Mobil 1 and never going back.
Engine runs noticeably smoother and quieter now.

every few years there is an oil that gets a popular following (anyone recall Royal Purple and its hype? Amsoil prior to that?) and "it makes my engine run so much better" hype. But in the end? All one needs is an oil that meets or exceeds manufacturers specs.
I've been using Mobil 1 full synth from Wal Mart for more years than I recall. And 100% of all of my engines have been fine/no smoking/no compression issues up until whenever I got rid of the cars.
All depends on your goals I guess. Aiming for 1 million miles? Then maybe its necessary to go with very high priced oils. But if like me, and the max you ever go on any car is 180k or so miles? Then Mobil 1 (I actually used WalMart SuperTech in my old Lincoln LS, with no issues) has been fine for me.

wasnt implying its not good, and i applaud whatever makes one happy with what they put in their engines. I've just learned over the years to be wary of marketing, and that price doesnt always mean better. Also depends on goals. My goal is for my engine to last/run well for the entire time I have the car. And almost any full synthetic made these days (when changed every 10k or so) will meet that goal.

May not be the same situation/league. We have an 05 Jetta GLI 1.8, since picking up with 12 mile, I've only used Mobil1 0w40. Changed oil every 5k miles.
Now with 210k miles, it still runs the same.(minor oil leak, gotta work in that soon)
I'm a believer in it.
May give Motul a try on the next oil change. Still got 4k miles to go. Will continue to ready feedback on it.
Joe.
