The 63 guys have 1 thread on the 1 issue on our cars and you have a beef with starting a new thread for helping 63 owners out? Why not go stink up a e55 thread and leave this thread to the 63 owners? I’m tempted to start posting in every e55 thread about how they are garbage, just so you can see how stupid you look.

as far as the timing marks on the M156, you set the mark at 40, then check to make sure you’re timing tools fit the cams. If they don’t (you can be off slightly) then you turn the engine over 360 degrees and check again until the tool fits and your mark on the pulley is lined up like Tasos’s video. At that point you can start pulling the cams off and replacing the bolts. You’ll hit the torque value and add 270 degrees more of a turn. I’m glad someone took the time to make a video, and shared more info on the M156, they are cool engines but MB didn’t really beef them up until later, so the older ones need different oil, and possible head bolt replacement.
This forum is so powerful because of the people like you who will share information and support other community members 👍👍👍

I also feel that the E55 guys talk so much BS about how bad the M156 head bolt issues are. Having never owned one. But if you look at the W211 thread, there is probably a 20/1 ratio of issues with the M113k. If you don’t believe me, then count the numerous threads concerning the E55, now count how many there are for the E63, this fact can’t be disputed. No engine is bullet-proof. It is a fact that both platforms have their own unique issues and challenges. If you choose to preemptively change your head bolts out for over-burden sense of caution, then that is your prerogative. I’m no expert, but in my opinion this is way over exaggerated. Enough said.......🤔

This negative perception spans a few of the AMG forums, often from people with zero direct experience just regurgitating information they read.

Every engine has its strengths & weaknesses and the M113K, while quite formidable, isn't perfect either. Doesn't stop me from enjoying & appreciating both engines thoroughly.

Maybe some of the M156 experts on this forum can help this M156 CL owner. He recently posted and thinks his second M156 just popped. https://mbworld.org/forums/cl55-amg-...ed-unreal.html

Certainly one I'm thankful to have.

In terms of any commentary on here, I just try to keep things as objective as possible.

Hate to see experiences like this. Injectors are indeed a routine service item on the M156. Fortunately they are both inexpensive to purchase and easy to DIY.

Going OT for a moment, did you upgrade injectors on your E55? Looking into this after an interesting conversation with Eurocharged the other day.

My E55 injectors are stock with 250k miles on them. No issues to date.

Good for you but I wouldn’t risk it. MB used the same supplier for m156 and m113k injectors. My friend almost lost m113 (without “k” - not amg) engine in his because of the injector failure.

Out of curiosity, what is the current recommended mileage that we should be changing out injectors; 75k, 100k?? I’m currently at 91k, and haven’t had any issues and when my car was scanned two weeks ago shows no codes or issues.

I don’t know what MB recommends per say but I’d say every 60-70K. But obviously this also depends on age, mileage, and gas quality used during the ownership.

I have 69K miles currently. I bought a set of Bosch injectors for $150. And it will probably take under 2 hours for me to change them. I will post the video when I change them. FCP had them for the same price during the pandemic but recently raised their prices to 300+, so I bought from somewhere else.

Thanks for the update, I will have this discussion with my tech on Wednesday. I’m having the windshield cowling replaced, and also diagnose this issue

This issue popped up after having my upper oil pan gasket replaced, they had to drop the entire engine subframe. We scanned this several weeks ago, and it pointed to this sensor, so my tech disconnected it and reconnected, and the problem seemed to go away, after the car was scanned. So it think that we may need to replace this sensor.

What modifications do you have?

For the M156, I'm going with 50K mile intervals. A stuck-open injector is a serious threat to your engine.

I don’t have any issues with injectors, just inquiring into preventative maintenance.

Great to hear your making a video on this. I bought a set of injectors from FCP for $161. I’m still learning things about my car and your video really help. I’ve been meaning to change out my injectors as I have no clue if they have ever been changed at all. I just hit 80,000 miles with my E63 and should probably change them soon.

I just checked on RockAuto, and they have them for $17.82 each, which works out to be $142 + shipping for the Bosch Fuel Injectors. So they can be had, if you shop around online. 🤔

FYI, RockAuto only has one injector in stock and that has been the case for a week or so. I did just find them on amazon for $22/each which is still like $200+ off. Link:

You can send injectors one for cleaning and service, they will provide a flow rate and other stuff for $100. injectors can be serviced. My brother runs E85 and 1050ID injectors on a boosted LS3 and evening after a few months he had one at 93%. I’ve been using the Chevron fuel injector cleaner and Lucas stuff the last couple of years. I found non ethanol fuel local with its own pump handle so I’m not using the treatment as often.
