Heres here’s an update. I changed the oil and ran an entire bottle of marvel myster oil in the car and drove about 600 miles.. here’s what the engine bay looks like now...
I would just keep doing what your already doing, as it seems to be working. The difference is night and day.
It mostly looks that way because he wiped it down. if you look below all the stuff he wiped, you can still see it is very Gunked up... I second Macedon's comment to use the Lubri Moly Flush. Honestly if you have the time to let it rest, I would do a Kerosene flush, followed by a Kerosene Pickle (basically fill the motor to the brim with Kerosene) ((DO NOT TRY TO START IT IF YOU PICKLE IT, IT WILL HYDROLOCK!)) Let it sit for a good week in the pickle and then drain the kerosene, you may need to turn the motor by hand a few times to get it drained. then put in fresh cheap oil and a filter. Start the car and run for 10 mins. Drain the oil, put in more fresh cheap oil, you don't have to change the filter though. Rinse and repeat 4-5 times. Then put in new filter with Lubrimoly oil, and the lubrimoly conditioning system. you should be good to go. It would be nice to be able to clean the pickup but I know you have to basically pull the motor to remove the oilpan. I have done this with a number of diesel vws (and saltwater submerged boat engines but they are a different story all together), and the results are always really good.
