Only modification necessary to make the E55 faster is to push the gas petal! Any legitimate modifications obviously it turns into a blow out

I would like to see a head 2 head race between a E55 an a E63 that has a Weistec supercharger installed. If we are comparing apples to apples.
Other that than, you can't compare a NA car against a car that is supercharged.

The M156 was the first AMG fully designed from the ground up mass production engine. Others would be engines like the Zonda but that wasn't mass produced nor fully designed by AMG. The Zonda had the M120 and M297 which were AMG redesigned or modified Mercedes Engines.

M156
The M156 is the first V8 automobile engine designed autonomously by Mercedes-Benz subsidiary Mercedes-AMG, as previous AMG engines have always been based on original Mercedes engines. The engine was designed to be a naturally aspirated racing unit, and is also used in a number of high-performance AMG-badged Mercedes-Benz models.
The M156 displaces 6,208 cc (6.2 L; 378.8 cu in) and shares very little with other Mercedes-Benz engine families like the M155. The bore spacing, block design, and other features are unique to the AMG engine.

Both the E55 and the E63 are great cars, but bang-for-the-buck, the E55 is a way better deal to buy and maintain. I also suggest a wagon rather than a sedan--much more useful and much more of a sleeper. One place to find good ones is BringATrailer.com.

With AMG's first totally engineered and designed engine, you were bound to have some issues. But the last 50 years has taught us, is that AMG has gotten better in their engine design.
I personally love this engine, and I have owned three different AMG models with the M156 engine. But these small issues have solutions. Although it costs you some money to rectify.
