Need help, alternator again!
Hello all, this is the second time my alternator has gone out on my 03 e55 . I’ve called the dealership as the alternator was still under warranty but it is on backorder and was told that the part would arrive within 2 weeks to a month but even then they’re still not sure on the arrival date because some other parts have been on backorder for 3 months. What are my options? Any other recommendations on alternators that you guys have ran successfully and worked out for you other than the oem Bosch alternator?

This place is a joke.
Mine just went again. It was a 5 year old Bosch Reman directly from MB, only 42k miles on it. The original alternator lasted 100k miles and 8 years. I just replaced it with a NEW not reman Bosch unit from Rockauto.com for around $235. Bosch gives you a free 2 year roadside assistance and towing program with it. I replaced it myself with the car on a lift, from the bottom.Disconnect battery ground cable. Remove the 4 bolts holding the steering rack, lower it a little and remove the 13mm bottom bolts holding the engine mounts and raise the engine. Took a couple hours. Make sure you have a good battery- preferably an OEM battery or at least a good AGM type. A bad battery could wear out your alternator faster.

My alternator kept burning up because my battery was old and some how draining the alternator without the battery test tool showing that my battery was bad. I went through three alternators before I replaced the main battery and the aux battery and have not had a problem since.

The wife’s E500 went through 3 alternators in 2 years. The battery testers at 2 different parts stores showed the batteries to be in good condition. After it happened a 4th time I took it to a shop and gave them the history. They charged the main battery and observed its behavior and determined that it had a weak cell. Replaced the alternator and the main battery with a new AGM and there have been no issues in almost 2 years.
I should also mention that the red brake warning would often come on, convenience functions would be unavailable and other small electrical issues were common. Those issues have all gone away since the proper repair was performed.
