Does anyone have a picture of their aux connection?
Heading to LA from Texas later next week and driving back an 05 E55 with my buddy. Needless to say I’m super excited! Getting some things together for the trip and I cannot seem to find a picture or explanation of what the aux connection looks like. Is it a typical 3.5mm cable or a weird iPod connection? I know some of the older German cars had different connections so I wanted to confirm. Don’t want to spend 1300 miles without a selection of music.
Thanks!

There should be a 3.5mm aux connection in the top of the glovebox (it can be hard to find, but it is there). Some vehicles also had an optional ipod connection interface (there would be a cable in the glovebox with the old (wide) ipod connection). If it has the ipod interface, the 3.5mm auxiliary connection will not work (it needs to be disconnected to install the ipod kit).

If you're talking about an actual USB plug then it's definitely not stock. If you mean the ipod connection then that is normal: the aux jack is not removed, however, it will not work. There is only one audio input connection on the back of the headunit so if the ipod interface is installed, the aux input must be disconnected.

There's an AUX and an Ipod hookup. It's either one or the other and you'll have to pull the stereo to swap the plugs. It's not a hard job and doesn't take long, check Youtube for videos on doing it.

Thanks for the info! I’m going to call the seller and just ask to peek in there for me so I don’t have to guess before picking it up.

If it does have the ipod connection and you don't have an old ipod, it is fairly easy to remove the comand/audio heat unit to swap the plugs so that the aux input will work. All you need is a somewhat short T20 (torx) screwdriver (or a longer T20 screwdriver and a T20 bit on a ratchet). If you're mechanically inclined, you could have it done easily in 10-15 minutes (or less than 5 minutes if you have done it before).

Since my E63 is 11 yrs old, I still use the iPod connection with my 120 GB IPod Classic. I have 400 songs on it for those long road trips.

My CLS has the old wide iPod cable in the glove box. I bought the adapter but it doesn't work with my iPod or iPad. Does anybody know what the newest version of iPod that will work?

Good info I have the Ipod and the Aux plugs and could never get it to work. So what you are saying is removed the head unit unplug the Ipod plug in the back of the commad/audio and there is a plug for the Aux input. Just swap them? Thanks again.

Exactly. On the back of the headunit there is a small three pin plug with the wire extending to the right side under the dash. This is your ipod audio signal. There should also be an identical connector loose behind the headunit somewhere (it might be right there or they may have tucked it out of sight a bit... usually it's not too hard to find). Just swap the plugs and your aux port will work but the ipod wont). If you look under the right side of the dash you will find the ipod control unit. Do NOT completely disconnect this.
