NTG 2.5 Retrofit - No AM/FM Radio Reception

Hello all,
I have searged endlessly to no avail. I am having a problem with ny NTG 2.5 retrofit. I purchased a command, main amplifier, sub amplifier, SDAR and media interface from a 2009 E550, as well as a conversion harness from CommandOnline. Everything works with the exception of 2 things:
1) No radio reception for all AM/FM stations
- The harness I received from CommandOnline has a splitter from dual white fakra at the back of the command to a single that you have plugged into the black fakra that was connected to the AGW previously. There is a double white fakra on the SDAR that has nothing plugged into it. I assume this is my problem? If so, what do I run to this?

2) Can't communicate with the nodules on the MOST loop but they all work
- I assume this needs some programming with Star DAS which I have tried to no avail. Can anyone share with me the steps to perform in Star DAS?

Thank you all in advance,
Bryan Tracy

Do you have access to that 09 e550? You missed some parts, antenna amplifier and Oem double white fakra that goes to sdar. You will need to ditch that antenna fakra cable from comandonline if you want to use sdar that has HD reception. Antenna amplifier is on the driver side at rear C pillar and follow cable to the trunk where you removed sdar.

If if you want to communicate with command and amp go to cgw and change year to 09 then you will be able to see all the modules.

Once you do that and you want am/fm reception ASAP for meantime you can take out sdar out of the ring and can use that fakra from comandonline and will have reception but it not be HD radio. Let me know how it goes.

The SDAR needs to be connected to the '09 antenna amp that goes in the Drivers C Pillar. After that you will need to code the system via STAR. SOme versions of STAR will not log in as a '09 if that's the case use a ML163

Thank you both! I was able to get in under a W219 and code the CGW to MY09. Antenna amplifier and roof antenna ordered and on the way. The antenna cables are discontinued by Mercedes and I have not found a junkyard that will pull them for me yet. I will have to get creative.

I shouldn't say discontinued, I called up the dealer I used to work at to order them and they are not available in the states or Germany.

For those who did this retrofit, how did you mount the later style roof antenna? Did you drill the roof panel or mount it elsewhere? I would really like to be able to receive the HD stations if possible.

What harness are you missing? Maybe I can help you.

I ordered the harness that I needed (SDAR to antenna amplifier). Now I am battling a battery drain that I have not had time to look at. I have a feeling that something is staying on after the retrofit.

I bought the harness from Kabel Daviko. Will see how it goes. COMAND Online wasn't helpful at all when I first inquired about their cable harness. Andy they are more than double as expensive for the same thing.

A battery drain isn't too difficult to find and eliminate. Just don't pull blindly fuses as so many do and never diagnose the real reason but rather just the corresponding control module.

What is the part number of the cable harness between the SDAR unit and the antenna amplifier that you ordered?

Thanks.

there isn’t a specific SDAR harness it’s part of the harness already in the car. For the GPS antenna I used a small puck antenna that I mounted on the rear deck in the subwoofer enclosure where it has a view of the sky under the rear window

My old NTG1 SDAR control module only has one antenna connector for the SDAR antenna. My new SDAR/HD Radio control module has a blue connector for the SDAR antenna cable and 2 white connectors that go to the antenna amplifier. There are no cables on the right side by the SDAR control module for the antenna amp.

Daviko's harness has the antenna cable that plugs in the antenna plug that came out of the old AGW but then there is no connection to the HD Radio part. I think he doesn't know about the US systems and therefore leaves them out.

ahhh yeah right. It’s been a while since I’ve been in there.

I built two cables with Fakra connections on each end. Those then go to the new antenna amp in the C-Pillar

The cable from the SDAR to the antenna amplifier is 211-440-09-32. This is the only way I was able to get HD radio to work. You also need the cable from the NTG 2.5 to the antenna amplifier which I believe is 211-440-23-32 but I do not remember for sure. I started this a couple years ago now and I do not have the texts messages anymore from when I ordered parts.
Edit: Confirmed the part numbers.... 211-440-09-32 from SDAR to antenna amplifier and 211-440-23-32 from NTG to antenna amplifier.

Thank you.

Is the second number you mentioned (NTG to amp) not part of Daviko’s cable harness? The one that plugs into the cable that came out of the AWG and connected to Daviko’s harness?

I did not use Daviko's harness but if it is the same as the CommandOnline harness, the provided antenna fakra that connects at the back of the NTG 2.5 will not allow HD radio. I removed a ton of antenna cable from the car that was not needed for the 2.5 conversion. Simply use the harness provided by Daviko and add the 211-440-23-32 to the harness or run separate like I did and run up to the antenna amplifier. Then add the 211-440-09-32 from the antenna amplifier to the SDAR.

I’ll try to lay out the harness from him and take a picture with the devices that I have and see how it goes. I wasn’t aware that there is yet another harness needed. I think I have read literally every thread and ever post that google found about the NTG2.5 retrofit and nobody has ever mentioned the two additional harnesses or all other parts that need to be changed like COMAND frame, the upper SAM Rear bracket that holds the sound amplifier bracket in place on top, together with a new lower bracket that used to mount the old frame that contained the nav, TV tuner and Parktronic unit.

I’m sure it will never be 100% factory like, no matter how many times I compare my VIN with a VIN that has it from the factory.

The left hand side trunk panel needs to be replaced too but that is only available in black since it’s a facelift part. Not sure if I wanna have a two tone trunk now I might just cut a hole for the fan in there.

Most threads I found on here or the European sites disregard HD radio as HD radio is not available in Europe. I fought this for a year and finally got everything I needed with a lot of trial and error and parts from Germany

Europe has DAB (Digital Audio Broadcast) which is the equivalent of our HD Radio. And digital TV is DVB-T and eben that is obsolete now and replaced by DVB-T2. Not sure why nobody ever talked about it. Even on the German and UK forums.

I’m planning this on and off for well over a year now too.
