Bumper sag/hood gap?

Anyone else seen anything like this? Car has a clean carfax and shows no signs of being wrecked. Is this common? Is there any adjustments I can make to tighten this gap up?

I found my hood doesnt always close evenly just like your picture.
ou can adjust the L/R latches and L/R bumpers.
Its uncomfortable, but ive found I have to slam it on one side to close evenly.

Possibly missing the two bolts in the center of the bumper (the ones behind the center grill that screw into the aluminum brace). That or the bolts were installed with spacers for some reason (perhaps aftermarket intercooler). I can also see a gap at the passenger-side fender-to-bumper interface that is not present on my car.

First guess, I'd say the bumper has been pulled off in the past (either by a previous owner using tools or maybe by backing off of a curb when the bumper was hung up) and not reinstalled correctly.

Alternatively, since the W211 has a replaceable body sub-frame to which the bumper and headlights mount, it is possible that was damaged, replaced, but the sub-frames mounts were not aligned correctly. All conjecture on my part; I am not a professional body repairman nor do I pretend to be one.

EDIT: Could those be aftermarket headlights that do not fit properly? The gap above the headlights is too large; perhaps they are pushing the front bumper downward?

Yeah I guess the best option is to pull the bumper and maybe headlights when I have time and take a look. They are OEM headlight housings.

Your bumper is definitely misaligned; the junction of the fender/bumper should be very tight; the hood/bumper has gaps but smaller than yours. Is that an E63 bumper by chance? Could it be aftermarket?

Looks normal to me. Might be the angle that makes it seem bad but the gap between the bumper and hood around the headlights is always large. Google some pictures and you'll see.

I beg to differ, I had a good look at my car yesterday. And I paid attention to the fender to bumper gap, and well as hood fitment, and the gap around the headlights. And his seems excessive as compared to mine.

My bumper fitment this morning. Closer fit than the OP's bumper. Look at the headlight-to-fender interface, the curve of the bumper-to-fender interface, and the grille alignment with the bumper.

It can be fixed

[QUOTE=MTBSully;7649682]Anyone else seen anything like this? Car has a clean carfax and shows no signs of being wrecked. Is this common? Is there any adjustments I can make to tighten this gap up?

The short answer to your question is that your bumper needs to be removed and reinstalled correctly.

If you're not the original owner I can tell you that it has probably been removed and reinstalled incorrectly. Whats most likely misaligned are the long metal "clips" (for lack of a better term) that pull the bumper and fender together. sort of like a sandwich. I know this because I've recently removed and replaced my bumper and had the pleasure of trying to align that clip myself. It has to be pushed forward, rather forcefully, in a (slightly towards the engine) outward position and then pushed towards the fender where it fits into a slot. My explanation is rather convoluted, but whoever fixes it for you will understand exactly what I mean when they're doing it.

Good luck with it!

Found the part online, it's actually a support bracket: https://www.carid.com/genuine/front-...31&url=1230649

I believe this is the culprit.

Yes, looks like I need to pull it off and see whats up. Probably wasnt installed correctly. What bothers me the most is the gap between the bottom of the grille and the bumper. (can kind of see this gap as well in the guy above me who posted). I didnt notice it until the car was on the lift the other day, but now it bothers me lol.

I'll pull the bumper at some point when i have time and report back.

I find a lot of them have a much larger gap than what you would expect for this calibre of car. This one is definitely larger than is common.

Those large clips really are a total pain. I had a couple of goes to get it perfect following HE installation.

I have a similar hood adjustment problem with my e55

I

I think the bumper is misaligned because if you look at the grill it’s closer on the right then it is on the left. If someone could let me know what I should do, that would be great!
and don’t worry the water is only from a fresh wash!

I was doing some maintenance on sensors inside the bumper, previous owner had a broken bumper strip and upon taking it off I noticed that he installed chunk of washers beneath upper screws (ones you can access soon as you open the hood), but still not in this amount that I can bacially fit my hand between the hood and bumper....
Do I have to do fixing it per video above or it's something more fcked up in my case?
