Clear Old Owners Phonebook
Hey All,
I searched the Forum pages but couldn’t find a thread on this topic. I just picked up a 2009 E63 and can’t seem to find a way to erase all of the previous owners contacts in the phone book, or sync my phonebook to the phone. Are there any vidoes on this? I know that there is a way if you take the car and have someone do it with a computer, but that doesn’t sound like it will be the easiest way to get this done.
Thx.

That is a great question, I need to think about this for a moment. To my knowledge the phone numbers aren't permanently stored in the car, but on the phone.
Your car just sync to the phone each time. But don't quote me on that. It would help if I was sitting in my car right now.

Yeah, it’s weird... I synced my iPhone to the car using the bluetooth in the command and everything works as it should, but when I go to the phone book, all I see are names of people from the previous owner and none from my phone.
I have the car at Mercedes right now and have asked them to look into it as well. I think they may just plug into the command unit and default it back to factory settings for me, that should do it I would think.

its been a while for me but from what i recall resetting the head unit does not delete the phone book. maybe unplugging the bluetooth puck does. i've done that before, but don't recall if it erased the phone book. will try again as i've been receiving popups for phone book full.

Correct, clearing the unit does not clear the phone book, you nailed it. My 2009 doesn’t have a puck, the bluetooth is an integrated part of the radio I believe. I should get my car back from Mercedes today, I asked them to do a factory reset of the radio, hopefully they will get it done for me.

I would have thought that resetting the Bluetooth puck, would have cleared the contacts from the Comand.

You can only delete individual entries using the method in the manual. The problem is every time your phone has a new contact added it resyncs your entire phone book and causes COMAND to eventually reach its max due to duplicates.

You are correct Barry,
the command only allows you to delete one contact at a time. This is tedious and not a good solution. The previous owner of my car had a ton of contacts and I just need them all gone, then I can sync my phone and add my own connections.

to report...i unplugged my bluetooth puck and reinserted and it stopped prompting that address book is full. can't say for certain this is the absolute solution, but it seemed to work this time.
