Attention T-Bone
T-bone - I'm trying to send you a PM (or email) but your PM storage has been exceeded.
Can you kindly email me (or PM if you prefer) - here is what I was sending you:
Hi T-Bone -
I'm trying to get my dealer to move the battery to fit a spare like you have done, but they are saying they require some "kit" to do this. Did you use a kit ? If so do you happen to know the model #, or could you give me a contact of the dealer who did this for you ?
The easiest way to reach me would be an email reply:
Edmond.Knopp@med.nyu.edu
Thanks
Eddie Knopp

I know this post was not directed to me but I have a 2004 with no spare and I spoke to MB North America customer service (on advice of my MB sales Rep.) on MB coming up with a kit to retrofit a spare on the E55's that did not come with it and they told me it is not going to happen. So my sales person said we are going to wait to the dealer gets a new E55 with a spare and they are going to try to reproduce the trunk re-arrangement to fit my car with a spare . I do carry a spare in my trunk already and since i'm not to tech savy elec./mechanic I would rather have them do it for me.

There is a spare that will fit - see earlier posts, the issue I'm having is that they don't seem to want to relocate the battery without some official kit. T-Bone did it on his own (I believe), really just needed to move the ground.

MBWorld Fanatic!
I just did a search and I can't seem to find the old posts about retrofitting a spare.
Someone had posted a picture of their retrofit.
Someone also posted a picture of the newer E55's trunk well that come with a spare.
The main difference between the two is that the bottom of the trunk is made to hold the spare for the newer E55. I had to lodge mine in place using some left over foam I removed when I moved the batter to the right side of the trunk.
It was pretty easy to move the ground and battery myself. You just need the right tools. Torx bits are necessary.

Thanks T-Bone, spoke with the service boss last night, he's having his chief mechanic look into it, I told him what you said about just moving the ground - we'll see. I'd be too asfraid to do it myself - I tend to mess things like that up.

That's great Thanks - If my dealer won't do it, instead of me trying and screwing things up, I'll have my local sevice station do it. These will be very helpful.
