Maybe 2005 E55 Wagon
Looking at a 2005 E55 Wagon - How to Verify claim
I have the opportunity to purchase a 2005 E55 Wagon. It was sold on BAT not long ago and is being resold. Yes, i am paying a premium but i missed bidding on it and these things are hard to find. I have a PPI on the car next week. Seller has been straight forward and easy to deal with. A claim was made in comments of BAT auction “VIN A723439 is the second VIN in the range but it is actually the first E55 Wagon ever built for the United States market. A723439 was, in fact, the car used by MBUSA for the unveiling of E55 Wagon at the 2005 Los Angeles Auto Show.” Was this VIN the first US Production E55 Wagon? A723439 VIN: WDBUH76J35A723439
Is there any way to verify the authenticity of this claim. Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Someone with EPC can look up the build date of the car. That won’t prove it is the factory car, but could prove it isn’t. Or look at the build month/year on the VIN sticker on the drivers B pillar.

What is “EPC” . Yes the car sold 4/3/19 to a wholesaler and he is flipping it. At some point for me i want an E55 with low mileage i prefer that color. I understand i am paying a premium and am kicking myself for missing it on BAT. For me, the story behind it is interesting. Thanks!

certainly was a beaut! i'm surprised there's much meat left on the bone purchasing cars on BAT and trying to flip them.
in any event, good luck and i hope you keep his profit margins slim

Thanks. How do i find what VINs was the first? I found an online MB EPC. It does show everything that came on the car but i don’t see what was the first 2005? Is there an AMG registry?

Good luck Matt. Sorry I swooped the California car out from under you. That one looks really nice- didn't realize the purchaser from BaT was trying to flip it. Might have been easier for me as Huntsville is just a few hours South of me.

Not fully following the thread but see Huntsville mentioned. Is the car in Huntsville, AL? If so and you need I can look it over for you. I am up that way 3 days next week. Would sure be cool if it was the first one made and you close the deal. Lucky guy.

Thank you for the offer. Car is now in Houston. An RCBMW posted the claim in the BAT comments. Question are tge red calipers a repaint or was that an option?

I say enjoy it. I have a GT3RS with 29k miles on it and climbing. I can’t wait to drive it. So many owners barely use it and worry about where the values are going. My new to me E55 wagon has 124k on the clock and I can’t wait to run them up as high as it will go.

Thanks. So I am assuming that the AMG private lounge is also a registry. Would that site (which i cannot access till after purchase) show the range of chassis numbers imported to the US? Would any of you mind checking and let me know if this car really was the first wagon in the US? Thank you!

This is from the RCBMW guy. I tracked down the build date of November 2004, and the sales date of 4/2005. It was sold by MB of Beverly Hills, so the story holds up. It theoretically could have been the car used in LA auto.
“Thank you for you note. The only other information that I have beyond what I posted is that I originally knew of this car and helped facilitate the sale to Enthusiast Auto who then sold it to the previous owner you purchased it from. Given that you have have the first E55 Wagon ever made for the United States market, I strongly encourage you to preserve the car and meticulously restore it to stock. The red-painted brake calipers, window tint, and wheels are not original to this car. In fact, you should contact Mercedes-Benz Classic USA in Irvine, CA and consider having them bring the car back to its former state. Im sure they would be delighted to help with such a historically significant car. Good luck!”
