Trading in the E55 for this.....

Opposites Attract

Style. Power. Fascination. These attributes are not contradictory. They express the opportunity to be at one with one of the world’s most elegant and sporty cars.

The sporty heart of the CLS 55 AMG is the supercharged AMG 5.5-liter-V8-engine with an output of 350 kW/476 hp and an enormous torque of 700 Nm. Impressive figures which allow the CLS 55 AMG to accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. The maximum speed is 250 km/h (electronically limited).

The unmistakable, muscular elegance of the CLS 55 AMG is accentuated by AMG styling, with dynamic front and rear spoilers, side skirts and the radiator grille with its three pronounced, silver-painted vanes and airflow breakaway edge.

Cool, norb. I think it's a good way to go. Nice choice. The CLS should be as nice as the E55.

Not a bad looking car. I still love the body on the '04 E55 better. Any specs out yet on the car?

i really cant adjust to those looks, its one of those "you either love it or hate it" cars. but good engine anyway and it should become the fastest "55"amg.

Norb - my thoughts but with a slight variation - CLS 65, another year away but maybe I'll be "bored" of the E by then.

Not only a head turner, I'm hoping it's a track turner too. It looks like it has the ability to be a light car that'll actually take advantage of the massive engines that'll drop into it.

Time to ask dad for a new car?

Its based on the E-class with the same wheelbase, but almost 4 inches longer and about 3 inches shorter. The proportions are somewhat deceiving with the streamlined look and high beltline. I would miss not having some body side molding...but I park far away from everything now, so it might not be too bad.

Vehicle specs on the CLS 55 are posted at

http://www.mercedes-benz.com/omb/amg/en/cars/series/cls/index.htm

Based on the info there, the CLS 55 will be about 185 lbs. heavier than the E55. Although the wheelbase is identical (same chassis), it is also about 2.5 inches longer overall, 2 inches wider, and the top of the roof is approx. 2 inches lower than the E55.

A very classy looking car to say the least...I fell in love with it the first day I saw it.
I hear it won't be in the states for another year... Do you know any different??? Good luck with your decision Norb.

Looking at the rear doors, my guess is that rear seat passengers will have to get out, er, carefully.

I read in the German Press that the rear door entrance/exit is very good (to their surprise). Consider this car a real 4 door sedan.

Btw, launch in the US should be Jan/Feb for the CLS500. I was quoted early May for our CLS55 delivery (but it's anybodies best guess at this point)...

Good choice. That is a gorgeous car.

Anyone else see some serious hints of the Maybach in that design?

I'm with Norb

I couldn't resist...I put my G down today. I am in the pole position (#1) at the World's Most Famous Beach MB dealership for this ride. I'm betting the '55 will be tweaked to get over the 500 HP by the time my *** hit the seat :v .
