03 E55 broken headlight adjuster...

Just looking for some opinions and or options. My new to me E55 has a broken height adjuster on the drivers side (stripped screw head) and am wondering if its possible to fix that part or adjust it with the housing removed. In case I cant what are my replacement options for a plain Xenon housing, I am leaning towards the hella xenon replacements but would like some opinions from those of you that may have may have gone another route.

Been reading about the halogen housing with a canbus HID kit and some of the Ebay replacements. I think I want to steer clear of the ebay stuff, I have seen/played with crappy projectors and I dont want to end up with that. Of course if there is a quality replacement out there on ebay please let me know about it and I will check it out.

Has anyone done a canbus HID kit in a halogen hella housing and are there any connector, wiring or electronic concerns I should be worried about aside from using a HID in a halogen projector. If someone has swapped HID's into the halogen projector how was the output, cutoff, beam pattern and was there alot of light scatter.

I dont really want to do another projector retro (have done 3 already for other cars) and would prefer an out of the box or minimal re-work solution, thanks in advance.

Not sure which screw your talking about, post a pic. Can you get a new screw and tap/ ream it?

The OEM Hella 55 halogen reflector takes very well to HID. Sharp cut off not much scatter. There are many (including myself) who run after market HID kits in the stock halogen projector. Since you have already done 3 other retro's I let you pick the kit you want. For me, I have had great success with DDM Tuning in a couple of cars. I would suggest going for a 55w kit, 35w makes an improvement but IMO 55W gives the best bang for the buck.
Here's something for the high beams https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...igh-beams.html

Ive always used the Morimoto mini H1 projectors with great results. Real reason I dont wanna do a retro is the EZ-bake size oven we have in our house wont fit a housing to bake them open, its a weak exscuse but valid imho.

Thanks for the heads up on the halogen projectors, I may try those. Waiting on the Morimoto D2S 4300k bulbs to arrive before proceeding, I believe I got the aim slightly higher to my liking (screwdriver jammed in FTW) but the current bulbs are too blue for my eyes. Not sure if the Nightbreaker Laser D2S bulbs I got were counterfit or not but they would not seat properly. Bulbs installed look to be D2C so hoping the Morimotos will work since theur specs show a D2C base.

And I will just say no to 55 watt HIDs, they fried my first Cobra retro. Started bubbling the hi temp paint and melting the housings.

I misread, I thought you have the halogens. IMO the OEM HID's suck. Got'em on the W209, W203, and W164. My E55's 55W H7's conversion blows the OEM HID's away and that's with the frosted lens!! Had the 55W for over 2yrs now and do 50% of my driving at night with a 1 hour commute each way, 5 day's a week. No sign of melting......Yet

Yes the 5th gen mori's are the way to go. One of these days I'll do the conversion, but not in my oven.

Well look at that, neat trick for baking a large housing. Gonna have to remember that one.
