SL55 80mm TB and crank breather hose venting connection ?
Hey everyone
Trying to setup SL55 80mm (aka 78mm) TB from 2008 SL55 on my E55. Got the 0912 snout as well as correct Ypipe.
But running into an issue connecting a crank breather hose (long one that goes to 2 valve covers and has a T connector) to the TB. E55 TB has a port for T connector (before the flap) BUT SL55 80mm does not.
How does original SL55 (07/08) deal with crank breather hose venting?
Called kleemann and they suggested just drilling into Y-pipe and running a 2 inch hose. I guess thats one way but whats the OEM way?
Others suggested just adding a little pcv filter onto the T connector.
IIRC from the many threads on this topic folks drilled a hole. That being said I wish you the best of luck with the TB upgrade. Let us know if you throw any of the P0505 or P0106 codes and keep an eye on your STFTs while cruising.
Just drill a hole and clone the fitting from the old one . I used a brass tube, cut the same angle for the air flow, installed a T fitting and it looks factory with no issues.
Don't forget to reset the throttle body and you should be good to go.
@SICAMG just to be clear you created a fitting on the Ypipe using a brass tube (just like a hole on the original E55 TB) and connected T fitting from the breather hose there?
got 1 month subscription to epc / .... wis...
not detailed enough where it lists all the parts and help to determine 07/08 parts on sl55.
maybe someone with actual sl55 can take a look one day.
Red .....No not at the y pipe ....at the throttle body just like stock set up. I left all the original hose's as well that connect to the fitting/ throttle body.
@redc36 Did you ever get this installed and running?
yes. basically SL55 have a DIFFERENT CRANK VENT hose. the big horizontal part is same BUT a short part (vertical) gets plugged into SL55 unique supercharger snout (78/80 snout).
74mm stock snout has a hole that filled by a plastic cap (i think people refer to it as brake boost hose connection or something like that and e55s dont use it)
Sl55 crank vent unique hose vertical part is LONGER and instead of plugging into the TB directly, it runs to that snout hole. As a matter of fact sl55 snout does not even have that plastic part when new.
I have somewhere the part # for the unique sl55 hose. its 90% same as stock e55 but has a longer vertical part. I bought it and returned it (cause it was 50+ $) and ended up just running my own hose.
