What do you think? Is this car overpriced? Help with pre-purchase inspection?

Hey All,
I'm still looking for an e55 and found this one, but do you think this is overpriced?
https://www.phillipsauto.com/vehicle...ca-id-34362583

Also, can you guys give some tips as to what to do for pre purchase inspection? What about when you live half way across the country?

Anyone in Newport Beach area willing to take this one and have it looked over for me? Lets talk!

I think it's over priced. I bank won't loan you that much.

This place is a joke.
Recently saw a 2005 E55 with 70k miles sell locally in Orlando, from a dealership for $16k. It sold in about a week. Grey color, extra clean , like new inside and out. If you find one out of state, ask the seller to bring it to the local MB dealership, if there is one close by. You'd have to pay for the dealership directly for the PPI, shouldn't cost more than $200....but always call first as some dealerships don't work on "older" cars.

I bought my ‘05 in similar condition, mileage, and options in October of ‘18 for just under $20k but the market has fallen since then. Anything over $20k is nuts.

Definitely priced high for 69k miles. Not even a rare color combo and pretty bare bones in terms of options. Doesn't have panoramic roof like the ad states either.
I'd only pay over $20k for:
1. Low mileage (<50k miles)
2. Fully loaded (with Distronic, power trunk, etc) or close to it
3. Designo car or sought after color combos (Obsidian w/blue interior, Alabaster white w/merlot interior, etc)
4. I'd also probably consider 05s and 06s only, unless it was a Presidential edition car or something

Eh, it's kind of high to me, but I'm not chasing after one. Just search as frequently as you can on a number of outlets and you'll get a feel for what they're going for. If you've got the money, and find what you want, go buy it. It's your money and your car - doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks. What's a few thousand dollars or a few thousand miles when it comes to finding exactly what you want?

That said, as time goes by... the number of m113ks with under 100K continues to dwindle... if that part is important to you.

I personally think it’s overpriced but I guess it depends how much value you put into the fact that it’s 2-owner and has been dealer maintained its whole life. It’s a nice peace of mind for sure but still, as others mentioned - it’s a common color and pretty low optioned

i get staying away from 03s due to the potential radiator/tranny issue but there’s nothing mechanically wrong w 04s. Sure the 05-06 got a couple updates but there’s not enough of these left to be that picky. If you find a good 04, don’t be scared

Definitely overpriced. It is not even well optioned. Lot's of cars should be available in the mid $15K range that are in decent shape.

I will also agree, don't overlook 2004, but I'd stay away from 2003. Early versions had weaker differentials as well as some electronics that were updated (mostly firmware/software) across the entire 211 lineup after 2003. When the 211 came out in late 2002, us dealer techs called them "two-a-lemons." They turned out to be pretty good cars once MB fixed all the bugs, especially compared to the junk MB is building lately!

I’m 20 minutes from Newport Beach but really think that price is Way high for me to check it for you. Try to find black E55, way cooler and incognito!

its not horribly overpriced, for reference my car is fully optioned(distronic/pano the whole 9 yards) with 108k in 7/17 for 16.5k. imho i feel like i got a good deal for my car, it was fully service with new fluids/plugs/brakes it needed nothing.

i would consider my car one of the few that could sell for near 20k. the 05+ sedans are slowly appreciating. but a good rule of thumb is sedans top out at 20k for rare examples and S211 can fetch 10k more simply for the touring configuration.

It may be slightly over-priced but it will be hard to find another one like it. I think that if jt ticks all the right boxes for you, go for it. The small amount more you pay will be nothing in the long run.

Looks clean in the pictures at least... Does not have bi-xenon headlights, rear shade, dynamic seats (probably not a bad thing), park sensors, etc. pretty bare bones. Relatively low miles, I would say mid teens.

As far as your inspection by a dealer, I had one done paying +/- $200 and they missed transmission mount failure and rear air shock leak. Besides the regular inspection items I would specifically ask them to inspect the air-matic system thoroughly as well as the engine and transmission mounts.
