Smile Hello all! I just ordered my '05 E55

Thanks to all for a great forum. I've been reading this forum for a long time and have finally gotten to the first step in the E55 experience.

Today I configured my 05 E55 for an August build/Sept. delivery.

I agonized over the color choice:

White: I had a 01 CLK430 in glacier white/ ash. Great looking car. E55 in white with tint and the pano roof would be tight, and easy to keep clean both inside and out

Brilliant Silver: I'm driving an 02 M3 cab, silver/blk now, so I thought I needed a change.

Pewter: Classy but doesnt stir the soul for me

Black: IMO the best color for an MB, especially the E55. Very high maintenence, however. Not sure If I can keep up with it, but, nevertheless, I decided on Obsidian Black/Charcoal. It will look very very mean and nasty.

I chose the pano roof, nav, 6 disc changer, rear sunshade, Sirius radio, ventilated seats.

Wanted to look closer at Flint Grey, but it is not yet available. Also I wanted a black birdseye steering wheel like I was able to get as a dealer option on my CLK, but was told I couldn't.

Windows will be tinted prior to delivery. I cant wait!!!

Does anyone have any pics of an E55 in Obsidian? Also, any good
suggestions for aftermarket wheels?

Will post many pics when it arrives (love posts with pics!!!!)

Good choice. Obsidian will be easier to keep looking good than flat black.

good choice.

I've looked at Flint grey on an Avantgarde 211 (though not very close at MB of HK), it looked nice, not as rich as Tectite though.

I've had my obsidian black E55 since Feb and no swirls yet. Of course, I only hand wash the car. No mechanical car washes.

Plus with the new Nano clearcoat, the surface is less susceptable to swirls.

Great choice...high maintenance...but when it's clean...man, it's mean!

Even though I don't want to admit it, I use a "brushless" car wash, I started in the winter - I had to get the salt off - NO swirls this Nano paint is great. On my old '02 CLK Black Opal I saw swirls

Thats the truth...

Just Zaino'd my 040 black SL55 and there is NOTHING that looks better than a perfectly clean swirl free black car. Nano paint is a huge help. My black C36 as a terror to keep swirl free but the SL is fairly easy.

Tips:

Use Zaino, use only the best quality micorfiber towels, use as much water as possible, and never rub the paint firmly. Use care and the car will look great.

I have Pewter on my E55 and its .... to plain I think.... Just kind of blah... but it does look good when clean but bla when dusty.

Anyone been able to get a significant cut on the MSRP on the 2005's?? The price on my car jumped 3 grand from last year, and while i know its not that big a difference, I know im not getting anything more for that money. I already negotiated 1 grand off sticker previously at my dealer in NJ, but am wondering if anyone has a dealer that would cut more to gain my business...

Are you sure about that September delivery? I ordered the same car and was told they won't even start manufacturing the E55 in Flint Grey until sometime in September with a delivery of maybe December or January. I hope that I'm wrong and you're right, because I'm getting tired of waiting.

I called today actually. Car is getting built, FLint Grey/Charcoal, starting Aug 20. Was told delivery from Sept. 10 the earliest...probably September 15th.

Nice choices, Themis. Congratulations.
BTW, white with the pano roof (which is essentially black glass) isn't a good look IMO. The dark glass breaks up the lines of the car since it sticks out in color. Any dark color looks much better with the pano.

The nano paint really cuts down on swirls in my experience. I had an obsidian black prior to nano and now one with, and the maintenance is definitely easier. But black paint still shows dirt/dust more than any color.

The E55 is definitely worth the wait, and worth being excited about.

That sounds great! Who did you call to get this info, the dealer? I'm working through an auto broker and I'm not sure he knows what's what...
