2005 has a new speedo
The 2005 cars have a 200 mph speedo and a new mesh vent over the center vents while the old car had a 160 mph speedo and a plastic slat style vent on the upper dash.
Just some info for fun...

It just looks better with the red hash marks. Small things that make a big difference!

Will we be able to retrofit this onto our existing clusters, or do we have to get new cluster? sure would love to have a redline, just adds that sense of sportiness IMHO.

It is early for the 2005's but they have been out for abouy 2 weeks I think. Saw my first E55 2005 in person yesterday and it is not much different. Also saw a 2005 C55 and the 2005 CL65 (talk about added mark up...WOW).

Your right, with a new speedo cluster, you need to program the current mileage into it. I'm not sure you can even do that rhough DAS. I think you need to order it from MBUSA and then they code the mileage into the cluster.
Upon installation, the cluster then needs to be coded to match with the EIS via DAS.

I don't think the car will start without the cluster and EIS agreeing.

This is how you can "wind back" the odometer reading on the car. I was recently offered, but declined this service.

Computer usually lets you go a couple hundred RPM beyond redline.

the 2005 cars must have the M mode (full manual control), then I could see a use for a redline mark. Otherwise it doesn't really matter, the auto trans/computer controls where the engine revs are.
