Paint vs powder coat
Hope it is alright I visit to the w211 forum as this is not model specific and there's a lot more of you than the GLE forum. Plus, from my prior ownership of a 2007 E63 I know how supportive and involved this community is.
I just got my CPO 2017 GLE 63 AMG and it is sweet.
The build sheet says B06 silver painted calipers and mine are red. Not sure how to tell if they were painted vs pwdr coated but I do not like the red so am taking the opportunity to get whatever I want.
I am concerned with the powder coat shop completely disassembling and rebuilding the caliper down to pistons/gaskets. $600 (4-5 days)
There is a local guy who will high temp paint them, off the car, but without completely disassembling them. $650 (2 days)
I can search well, and read what the internet says about this topic. But I was hoping to hear from people who have done either or both on their own beloved AMGs.
What would you recommend?
stable
new beast
red

Also if you get powder coating where you don't want it, it's a ***** to remove after the fact.

I would get them powder coated for longevity and resistance if you plan on keeping the car for a while.

This process requires the part to be heated up to 180C. It's nothing dangerous in comparison to caliper working temps so theres no real need to disassemble them IMHO.
600S for just a powder coat seems high
Finally got to drive it without the kid in the back too. A few 0-60 wot pulls and an open highway trek.. nice, really nice, and I am not an SUV guy. It moves.
