Greetings everyone. I have never owned an AMG vehicle before, this would be my first foray into AMG ownership, but I've been thinking about selling my E550 with 147k miles that I've been dailying the last two years and buying either a 2005 or 06 E55 or a CLS55. Any major problems with the CLS55 since it was made only one year? And I know it uses the same drivetrain and chassis as the E55 but is it any different under the hood? Easier or harder to work on? I used to have a 2003 E500 (M113 FTW) with over 200k miles on it that never gave me a problem except a blown airmatic shock that I replaced myself. I beat the **** out of that car and the engine and tranny took it and kept going, I did maintain the car properly and on time always, of course. I'd still be driving that car today and wouldn't even have the 550 if it wasn't totaled by some ******* who wasn't paying attention. Anyways, getting to the point, I found a 2006 black CLS55 with 130k miles for sale for $15.9k. Anything about ready to go on this car at this mileage? Car is a 2 owner and was always maintained at the dealer by both owners, Carfax report looks like it checks out. I understand this is no Toyota Corolla and that parts will always be expensive. I wouldn't be dailying this 30 miles to and from work everyday as I did my 500 and 550, I have other cars and I will be working on the car myself for the the basic tasks that I can do myself. E55 sounds appealing but I've already had 2 W211s, and as much as I love them, I don't want another. I've heard Air suspension can be a problem on these cars. Fine, I've been thru that ballpark with both my E500 and E550, and replaced the leaking strut(s) each time there was a problem which fixed it. 130K is really nothing for an M113K but Anything else I should look for?

Buy it. I have one..130k mi .. If the one you are looking at is still oem not modified. The biggest issue I had was oil level sensor, engine mount and starter. I also changed both battery. For some reason. I find the w219 chassis more refined than the W211. What I love with the w219 chassis is that the door window line is really high. gives it a very luxury sporty feeling. I feel really enclosed in the car.

@beast_e550 I too went with the 219 body when I purchased mine since there are not as many on the road. Mechanically, there really isn't any difference between the 211 and the 219 platform and working on it is the same. The M113K engine is about as bullet proof as a high performance dngine can be. I like that the 219 has 19" wheels and the steering rack is a new design that eventually (I think) was installed on the 211. Those that have commented about the steering says the it is more responsive. There is a CLS55 up for auction now on BringATrailer: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...benz-cls55-18/

You could check out my thread and see everything I've replaced or upgraded in my two years of ownership. I bought an 11 owner car with one accident on record and ~94k miles on the odometer. I've heard that the transmissions will need a rebuild/refresh as you approach 160k miles. Whatever you do if you want to avoid headaches don't upgrade your throttle body... that was single handedly the biggest regret I have so far.

I have one with about 80k miles. No major issues so far aside from my Eurocharged pulley tearing apart after only 13k miles and breaking some stuff (not a Mercedes OEM issue). I've done all mods and repairs myself and so far it has been identical to the E55 platform. I also like that there are only a couple thousand of these in the country and I can go a year without seeing another one. I coveted it for years when a buddy bought a base model back when it was new.

CLS55 is more rare find. I have mine for close to 7 years. Changed the air suspension with Arnott. It handle better than my E55 despite both 2006.
The look of W219 is more masculine.

I don’t Necessarily agree about it being expensive to fix, a lot of the parts are interchangeable with dodge hellcat parts ie starter, trans etc.
few things I learned, rear main seal was leaking, the oil conditioner from liqui Moly worked for a while but eventually I replaced it. Engine and trans mounts, flex plates, suspension components, subframe mounts. 13 pin for trans, and finally the shifter bushing. I also went ahead and replaced all fluids, also replaced radiator, and coolant pumps. Pumps were both working properly but since I was in there decided to replace. Finally had the sbc pump replaced, Mercedes upped the warranty on this part to 25 years, when it goes expect almost no braking. All of this has cost me under 2k doing most of the work myself.

Demuro has the data to back it up that shows No Reserve auctions tend to bring higher bidding wars since folks know the car will actually sell... That car is almost identical to mine so I was happy to see that they are at least kinda holding value while I enjoy the crap outta mine ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

@stars_gatherer please take a look at my build thread in the W219 section as I already have done a lot of work to it (and documented it well
). I also posted pics from my visit to Schone Sterne this year. Clickediedoodah: https://mbworld.org/forums/c219/8443...ml#post8838023
