Thumbs down Time Between Order and Delivery

I'm just about to order an 2005 E55 AMG with various options for approx. $117,000 CAD (to me a very good deal) , BUT when asking the dealer about the wait time, he told me that the average time is 8 - 9 MONTHS! Is there any way to shorten the wait, or should I just go to another dealer? I currently reside in Vancouver, BC in Canada.

In the US, dealers are given an allocation of AMG cars. Some have a higher number than others. If their allocation is one per month and there are 8 or 9 people on the list to get them, I can understand the wait. Often times, people are on multiple lists and take the first car that arrives no matter what dealer it comes from. This leaves a car available to the next person on the list. If the car is not what that person wants, it is offered to the next person and so on down the line. If you are not very particular about colors and options, you might get a call from your dealer much sooner than 8-9 months.

At at least one SF Bay Area dealer 2004 E55 models were available in 2-3 months from the time of order this past year.

HTH,
Greg

Why would you want an AMG in Vancouver? The speed limit is the equivalent of 30-35mph, and you have to take the roads damn near everywhere...

Yeah, the wait sucks for AMG cars. You have to try to get a car from a more desirable market source such as Toronto or NYC. I was told the 8-9 month BS in Richmond, VA and started calling the Washington D.C. area for a better allocation. I got my car in 6 weeks with the exact options that I wanted so a little patience/persistence will get the car you want in a reasonable time.

Maybe I was just lucky, but I just called a few local dealers and one dealer had cars coming within 6 weeks that were still not spoken for. I lucked out because they had a car coming in exactly as I wanted it (except for the electronic trunk closer, which I would not have ordered myself). I signed the deal on or about July 19th and got my car on August 11th.

This was after I turned down an 04 black on black at another dealership that I "bought" on the spur of the moment three days before the dealer was getting the car. Turned out the car didn't have xenon lights, and I didn't know they weren't standard when I bought the car. So I cancelled. But I literally showed up at the dealer and asked about E55's, and they said they had one coming the following week.

Again, maybe I was just lucky.

Im hoping from broadway, as this is closest to my house.

as for why I'm buying this car, I tend to go to Edmonton often in the summer and Whistler in the winter. It's fun driving up winding roads! I've test drived the E500 and it has MUCH better handling than my 2001 Acura TL. Hardly any police enforcing the unbelievably low speed limit.
