Those pics don't look too bad at all. The car looks great in that color and the cls wheels are a great fit with the more aggressive offset. My brother runs those on his e55. He does run 285s in the rear which is slightly too aggressive. 275s would have been a better fit.
Anyways, once the burnt dash and all the other damaged parts in that area are removed, you have basically removed 90% of the damage.
To get to most of the harness all you gotta do is remove seats, some paneling and carpets and thats usually very easy to do. You'll want to remove these things anyway for proper cleaning and to get rid of the burnt smell.
Picture your car without that damaged dash and carpets in it. You'll have access to all the damage and most of it yo would have already removed by taking the dash out.
all ya gotta do is, now you jus talkin.
I think the both of you should get together and fix this car. Keep in mind it’s got a clean title and nobody will ever know when you go to sell it. It sounds like an easy fix, but what do I know about burned cars, I’ve only fixed three or four of them.
I'm trying to figure out why you trolls are on here hating.
All he can do is try and if he decides to give up sell it as is. Hes only making it more appealing to a buyer is he starts removing damaged things. Less work for whoever is buying it.
Why are you ***** on here putting the guy down for no reason? Didn't your mama teach you better?
Seriously people in other section where we drive older cars are way more supportive. You folks are a bunch of haters. Probably don't even own your vehicles....got it on a loan living with parents kind of **** that's why you don't appreciate the car and are rdy to part with it the moment something major needs to be done on it.

Hater: yep!
Don't own my own vehicle: yep!
Live with parents: yep!
You really know people man!
Because the smell is totally going to go away once you replace a few interior bits.
100% bad idea. Cut your loses, or get a car with a dead motor and swap your working motor into that.

Yo, we gonna put 5 black Christmas tree air fresheners on the mirror. That'll burn anyone's nose, they'll never notice!

Those air fresheners serve a dual purpose. When you are cornering, and the air fresheners are at a 45 degree angle, that indicates you are undergoing one-G force lateral acceleration.
If the air fresheners are laying on the roof, you are upside down.

sincerely,
dummy jerk
Hey PJmasks, all my MB's are paid off, but the fragile snobs in the 167 forum told me they're all beaters, fwiw. I think they're just angry that their $70k-$120k junk is on a flatbed already but mine aren't.

Actually not putting him down, just you. The OP came with pictures and asked for advice in regards to repairing his car with a budget in mind. On a 1 a 1 to 10 difficulty, this would be about an 8 or so. The OP got a quote for engine swap, which on this car I would rate a 4 or 5 difficulty.
Electrical issues are problems when these cars are not compromised, but this car is a burn. Headliner, windshield, seat or seats, dash, airbag, probably all wiring harnesses are damaged and need to be replaced. The last fire damage car I did, which wasn’t as bad as this, had to come completely apart and all harnesses had to be replaced.
I can easily see 125 to 150 man hours to track down used parts and fix this car. That may be conservative. I think hatin is telling this guy how easy and cheap it will be, but the truth is that this car can be fixed, but it’s not going to be easy or cheap.

I too have gotten the 'your 10 year old car sux" LMAO! And you'd think the delicate 167 guys would know it takes a lot more coin/know how to care for and own SIX MB's compared to 1 new one
I think if this was my vehicle I would either sell it out right or maybe think about parting it out. It will be difficult to get the smoke smell out and after you repair it and there still may be electrical issues. You have to remember your time is also worth money.
That sure is a beautiful car though, rare color. Good luck what ever you decide!
Just because something can be done, doesn't mean it should be done. Lots of good advice posted above. This was a $25k car prior to the fire. It's simply not worth fixing from a financial perspective based on the man hours and parts it will require. If this was a $100k+ car, or something ultra rare, maybe.
Update and teaser : family issue has come up and financial for car stuff has shrunk by 60%. So money is an issue now (always), good thing working from home give me extra spare time.
Front dashboard remove almost complete. next is to check for good wiring/harness still good unburn.
Probably should buy a new blower motor. That car is burned quite a bit. That’s a complete interior gut and replace with the grey interior. Going to be an interesting car after the hybridization.

I see the car. But I don't understand the plan. This is like 2+2 = 3.
All you've done is make a difficult job even more difficult. Whatever 4 wheeled abomination you end up with, even if it runs and drives properly , which is doubtful, won't be worth anything. All that money and work, for nothing. Maybe you could call it "Frankenstein's Monster."

Yeah, I have to agree with Greasemonkey on that. So are you just taking the interior bits from the E500? What about the fried TCU and wiring harnesses? Because more then likely you'd replace them regardless. Like it would have made more sense to do the engine swap on that busted E55, if money was an issue just sell the extra parts you'd end up with. I dont want to be discouraging but you say you have time why not strip an E320, or something with good bones, and swap everything into that i.e brakes, suspension, engine and drive train? But thats my 2 cents, im looking forward to see the final results
Family issue arise and with children in college dorm so my financial for car is down to 3.5k. I have open up the burn TCU, it does not look that bad no electronic component is burn or missing that I can see and solder joint look still good.
I will try to use this TCU once all the re-wiring just to get the engine to run. If not I can get the E500 TCU revin or ebay e55 TCU revin to the car. If the car start and run then I will keep it and drive it as my Frankenstein's Drag Queen ( I really like the name).
If not then I did my best and sell as-it or Part-out car and learn new thing. My spoil E55 has always been a Garage Queen now she get a diet and nip tuck to become my Frankenstein's Drag Queen. A strip down no interior E505 that run !!SSHE LLIVE !!
or until I move AC system and interior over from the E500. Or even fix up the E500 rear damage and get TWIN Frankenstein's Drag Queen .
thing did not work out for the pop engine car in cali the non running car transport from CA to MD cost too high made it less of a deal. Oh well I will keep looking maybe find one near my area. my budget for donor car+engine swap 7k-8k sound fair? I have got a few people interest in my engine so that a 2nd option. Where an 406k miles e55 when I need one like on youtube. Turn out it still running just fine.
I am a part of a Facebook group named "E55 E63 AMG place!" There are a couple of E55's under 160k miles with blown engines. It's basically a marketplace for e55's. It may help you in either direction that you choose to go. Good luck!
Thank, I will check the facebook group out for stuff I will need. Wish I know about it earlier I might be able to get a pop e55 donor car for 3-5k and do engine swap.
