Mercedes e55 06 blown engine
Ok guys I just want your thoughts and opinions. I have an Mercedes e55 with 247k miles , the car was great I brought it at 200k but I could tell something wasn’t right with the engine even though the wasn’t any engine noises or more much evidence of something but the problem was when I drive over 58 mph the car would have this weird rubbing feeling like the rear was rubbing. Long story short around 235k mile the car began killing coolant. I was planning to just put another engine in it and start more fresh being that I don’t believe the old owners took car of the car. I would get oil changes every 4500 miles and I drove the car daily. I know this personal but I really have an attachment to this particular e55 . It’s flint Grey / blue grey with panoramic roof and all the opinions other than designio. It also has a police radar that’s worth 2k alone . And a after market kenwood head unit and sub woofer set up ready. I wanna put a new engine in it , and get the sunroof fixed. How much do you guys think it would cost to remove the old engine and put in a new engine in . (Not the price of the engine ) just putting a new engine in the car. Give me a follow on ig at superchargedtio thanks for the feed back guys

It sounds like the current engine hasn't been diagnosed? Do you have compression and leak down tests?
I would rather tear down and rebuild an engine perfectly that dump some unknown condition used engine in anyday. I just did this with my other car. You can fix almost anything except a hole through the block.

What year is your car ? And I also think better rebuild your current engine. Have you changed radiator or anyone has changed it ?
For the pano-roof... not cheap to fix if go wrong... I have not opened my pano for the last 10 years. Try not to use it at all !

$45,000 for a new factory engine or a personal rebuild for $8,000 including block sleeves and new pistons. Used engines $2,500-$4,000 that I see on Ebay.
Labor for the engine swap $2,000-$2,500 shop dependent.
Just throwing some numbers out for you.

It honestly sounds like your current engine could just have a blown head gasket or the timing cover seals have given away (more likely, and super common in m113 engines at this age)
I can't understand how you wouldn't want to keep the numbers matching engine in the car, even though the whole kit is high miles now.

Next step would be pressure test cooling system. Regardless, a rebuild of your current engine would definitely be the best option. Everything is inspected, reconditioned or replaced so the miles on it are irrelevant.

Should be around the same. But it is way cheaper than throwing another used engine in and finding it has problems and has to come out. I would never use a second hand engine without a strip down and minimum replace head gaskets and all oil seals, water pump etc.

They have it , you gotta remember the pano roof is the same for the e63 up to 2009 many w211’s have pano . To have it done at mb they quoted me 4k that was a year ago when I priced checked.

true but I wanna stay original, the m113k is very Reliable are has more than a enough power with a tune and headers. It’s just the old owners weren’t taking care of the oil and coolant flushes it’s literally life and death of these cars . It’s literally KEY to keep it running without taking it apart

Hey, man, I took GREAT care of this car for two years. :-) The guy who trashed it was the dealer on S. Saunders Street. He bought it from Johnson Lexus (where I traded it) then he drove it as his personal car for over 20k miles. He took out the amp, wrecked the pano roof, and let the motor go to trash.
The first owner worked at the Mercedes dealer in Orange Park, Florida. Sticker was $95k. I bet he took good care of it.
Sorry to hear about the motor, but I understand why you love that car. I never came close to liking my 2012 E63 as much as I did that E55. (BTW, you can buy my 2012 E63 from Mercedes of Cary right now. $35k and only 72k miles.)

Rougher ride, even with new Conti tires, and even though the E63 had 50 more hp, you had to beg for it. In the supercharged E55, the power was just there. I bought the E63 because I regretted trading the E55, but I never came to like the E63 as much.
