M5 video VS E55 video
Do yourselves a favor...although innacurate use your media player to time both cars acceleration to about 270KMH...I started at about 200KMH and timed both to 270 KMH...tell me what you guys come up with and which you think is faster..now that we seem to have somewhat interesting data to work with, no more bench racing we have some good data here....hehehehe

am not with u here
actually u cant judge the car by timing them from a video.. the video is slightly slower u need to have a laser gun in front of the car to see the accurate number . and this how most magazines do...
also the drivers of the m5 was easy on it he didnt kick down the throttle where u can see how aggresive the car is ...
but oh love the e55 what chip doest have?

550hp just with a chip. that’s too much it must be putting a lot of strain on the engine

Can you guys get more off topic in this thread? I started by saying the timing is innacurate, but that M5 got smoked, and yes he was full on it it was an acceleration test. Stay on topic.

Someone should try it out
and from those Videos we cant really say who get smoked...I'll be happy if just chipped E55 smoke New M5 as am planning to get one next Spring (2003model)...
I doubt it will...E55K will need more then just a chip top beat an E60 M5...perhaps at least a pullie kit or even headers as well...and if extra cash you can get an Kleemann LSD and you will definately beat New M5...this WAR will never end...

Its not off topic, hte video speaks for itself in case of E55.
Whatever stories willbe written of M5 being a new car as it was when E55 came out, looks like M5 will be a good conversation topic with high rpm engine and buggy SMG for a while but when M5 will run into this e55 guess what, there will be nothing to write about about it.
All the F1 bs about M5 engine can be summed up by this review:
"This engine is worthy of further comment, partly to debunk a bit of marketing whimsy, but mainly to say just how good it is. The marketing-speak is that it has significant strands of Formula One technology in its genes, but with the exception of having the same 90-degree configuration, bedplate construction for bottom-end strength and a hugely powerful management system, that's all window dressing, and the real engineers know it. Nevertheless, they can be proud of it as a road car engine because beyond power it has character, and that's something every M5 needs."
In a year or so BMW will have competitor to the E55 but will it beat it, I dont think so. Untill than lots of hot air will be pushed around.

Let's try to be somewhat objective here.
In the E55 video, the car speedo shows "only" up to 299, not 308. Secondly, in the M5 video, it looks like he stopped at 270 because he was running out of room.
Hard to really make any sort of comparison out of two very cool videos.

Dufus, autocar had nothing to do with E55K, what does Kleeman have to do with autocar reprinted numbers? Check your head by a local chinese doctor may be you need tigers pe nis remedy or monkey ***** drink to make you snap out of the BS you are swimming in.

you probably thought they were going to use the 3L 19000rpm engine and drop it in.
How much in common can a 5L engine in $80k car have with a 3L engine worth >$1million.
They forgot to mention that it has spark plugs just like a F1 car and any other SI engine on the road, not to mention a crankshaft and camshaft....hang on its pure f1

I think the biggest thing the M5 has going for it is 500 naturally aspirated HP from an engine of its size. The engine and select other componets are more sophisticated than what MB has put forth so far.
The new 6.3 NA MB engine will be much larger than the 5's to produce the same or a bit more power, but will also have more torque which means it will be better suited for the US...so you can leave the local traffic light with more twist than the smaller engined BMW and wave goodbye.
Guys. We are living in a time where you can go down to the local MB or BMW store and buy 470 to 500+ hp cars. Soon with the new Z06, the Chevy store will have 500 hp cars ready to be bought for less than $60k. The HP wars of the times are almost too good to be true, I hope there's no energy crisis this time around.
