E63 P30 wheel info

I was hoping someone could offer some info on the construction/weight/durability of the P30 wheels available on 2008 & 2009 E63. I have custom stance sf07 wheels on now after cracking 3 stock wheels in under a year but was thinking of going with and OEM+ look after seeing a really nice designo graphite e63 with these on. SL65 & CLS55 wheels look great, but (correct me if i'm wrong) they're boat anchors and just as fragile as the stock ones.

any info is appreciated!

I weighed the original CLS rear wheel (19x9.5j) a little while ago. 24.5KG (54 lbs) with a Hankook S1 Evo 3 in 285/30/19

i weighed my stock e55 wheels when i took them off and they were the same at 54lb. current wheels are 46lb front/47lb rear so a decent amount of weight savings. Not a huge deal to me...i'm more concerned about the P30's durability

I was on the hunt for stock wheels for my E55 almost a year ago. I figured they'd be easy to find. Whenever I'd talk to MB folks at shops or whatever, many said that MB wheels from that era were "soft like butter" (presumably for a comfy ride)...so that's why there aren't many around these days. Drivers bent or cracked them all by now.

I have no experience with P30 wheels. But, that is just about MB wheels in general.

I know P30 wheels are stupid expensive these days. I've considered getting a set. But, you can get a new set of BBS wheels for what P30s are going for, soooo....

I live in New England and I have never cracked a wheel, unless you count that time I bent TWO steel wheels taking a turn way too hot and smacking a square curb...

Am I lucky or are people driving into (hopefully unavoidable) nasty potholes? The roads where I live aren't known to be awesome, though I always remark when I drive down the NY/NJ area that the highways are unbelievably bad...nothing like hitting a nasty pothole at 70 mph.

It happens to the best of us. Avoiding them is a mix of practice, luck, and skill.

Oh, and don't jinx yourself.

I cracked a few wheels but the thing that was weird was that i never recalled hitting any particularly bad pot hole to cause it

I suppose i'll keep an eye out for a set of P30s for sale but probably won't go out of my way to find a pair. I like the idea of color matching the center to the car similar to this (not sure these are exactly color matched...but i like the grey center)

The P30 wheels do look good with the matching centers.

My 09 E63 is a P30 car with the two piece wheels. I took them off about 3 years ago because they had some curbing to get repaired and I needed to replace my front/rear rotors and pads and new tires. I bought a set of the stock E63 wheels and have used them since. I sent my P30 wheels to Wheel Collision Center in PA to get refurbed. They are quietly sitting in my closet waiting for the tires to wear out (won't be long on this car) to install.

The 2 piece wheels are good looking (and expensive), but brake dust gets into all the nooks and crevices between the spokes and the rims and the rim bolts. Tough to keep clean. The standard E63 wheels are the classic penta design and very easy to keep clean.

I would recommend that you switch to a carbon ceramic pad, like a lot of us have done. The only drawback is that you will lose that great initial bite that you get from OE pads.
But once your pads are fully bedded in, you won't notice the difference, but you will notice no more squeaks or brake dust.
And what little dust you do get is easily sprayed off, no scrubbing like before. I'm using these pads on my F85 X5M and W211 E63.

There are a lot of companies manufacturing carbon ceramic pads, for the W211 E55 and E63 platforms.
For instance; Brembo, Stop Tech, Power Stop, EBC and Akebono just to name a few.
And there are quite a few more, as these carbon ceramic pads have become very popular.

EBC might be easier for you to acquire, since the company is located in the UK.

beautiful. do you have any idea if they're forged or cast aluminum? do you know the weights? that may help us determine their construction if you're not sure.

Please PM me if you have any interest in selling.

The rear 9.5x18 P30 wheel weighs 31.5Lbs. I would guess the front 8.5x18's would be a lb or so lighter. The 2009 MB W211 sales brochure says they are forged wheels. The Footnote for these wheels says much be ordered as part of a Performance Package
