Your Opinion - Tires

04 E55-Conti's

started noticing a pulsing vibration at low speeds around 10k miles - thought it was brakes/rotors - dealer says it's the front tires!! Dealer will give me 2 new (conti) front tires if I pay mounting and balancing (the vibration or tire noise pulses and is very apparent). Should I accept the offer or just wear out all four tires and get some better rubber? TIA

I think lots of people will agree with me when I suggest you replace them right now with the PS-2s. They make a HUGE difference and are worth every penny.

I've seen several people post that they regret waiting for the Contis to wear out before replacing them.

mounting and balancing for two should be around $20, so I think it's better if you accept the offer first, then sell them or wear them out and replace them with PS2 in the future.

The Continentals are junk. Had the same thing on my '02 and still had 50% tread left! The Eagle F-1's were great (at least for the 4K I put on them before the 430 went away). PS also good but quick wearing. You will be surprised at the difference good rubber will make.

PS2's or look at the Goodyear F1, surprisingly good tires. Do it now, the difference is significant.

I just replaced my Continentals for the exact same reason at the exact same mileage. I would be interested if anybody has had this issue. I paid for mine. If you didn't pay for your I would be interested to find out why MB gave them to you at no charge.

This is the <second> time this has happened with my 2004 E55 with Continentals. 50% tread left, couldn't stand the vibration.

I've had PS2's now for 1,500 miles. Nice ride when new, we'll see in 9,500 more miles.
Put on 200 miles last night in heavy rain and was quite impressed.
I really wanted the F1's but they were nowhere to be found.
Worked out fine though, the PS2 is a great tire so far.

any experts here can tell me the obvious difference between my stock Pirelli and the PS2 - as I really want to change it after my C55 2000km

my thoughts exactly - can't find the F1's anywhere. In fact, on a waiting list for them over the past several months. Hoping they'll be by Christmas... in the meantime: the PS-2's are superb...

M6toE55,
I thought my '01 was low mileage at 21k ... yours at 14 makes me envious.

Dealers know that the Continentals are bad. On the 430, the F1's were the only other (dealer) recommended tire. Ran 235/45's and 255/40's and was blown away by the difference. I really liked them because there was almost zero "tramlining" which is pretty common on the heavily grooved, crappy freeways here in So. Cal. 'Course I paid through the nose because they were "on national backorder" and the only place to have them locally knew that, but still much cheaper than the Michelins. Pilot Sports are a great tire as well, just not cheap or long wearing. I'd run a Yokohama before buying another Conti-Sport!

Just clicked over 15k - it's a daily driver, but fortunately my to/from work is a fairly short ride... which is why I tend to hammer it most times I'm hopping on/off the interstates around here! Gotta get my adrenaline fix in wherever I can!

Take off the Conti's NOW. Having replaced them with PS2's I should have just thrown out the Conti's on the day of delivery. I'm not kidding when I write that when you put on the PS2s' n you'll think you're driving a different car. When you take that first curve you'll say: "Now THAT'S what this car should drive like!"
