Which Differential Cover Do I Have?

I bought a replacement differential for my E55 from a forum member a few weeks ago and installed it today. Everything bolted up great except for the heat sink that bolts to the bottom. It is a few inches short to reach the edge in order to be bolted in.

The differential has been modified with a P30 LSD out of a CLS63 and stock E55 gears. It did not come with a the fin attachment. When I looked up the part number for the original heat sink, it says that it will fit a cls63. Does a P30 diff come with a different diff cover? Since I already installed it, I can’t see the part number on the new diff. Can anybody help me identify which diff cover I have so that I can order the proper heat sink?

Cant you mount it the other way around or will it interfere with the exhaust? If it fits the other way around, you will still have the heatsink function.

I didn’t check to see if it would work in that orientation, but I would like it to be “right”.

I can imagine that, that would be best.

Other solution would be if someone could fabricate an aluminium spacer for you, if we cant solve this puzzle?

Looks like the guy I bought the diff from was incorrect about it being a 2005 diff. The diff cover is off of an 03 or 04 with the different style heat sink.

Got lucky and found a mint one from a guy off Facebook market place and he ended up working in an office building right outside my neighborhood. Happy as hell as it doesn’t seem like there’s any undamaged ones for sale at the moment.

I am looking for feedback from members who have installed aftermarket diff covers, both front and rear. I don't see any discussion of this and I am wondering what you may have liked or not liked about the various options out there. I want a drain plug in the diff covers. My '17 350 SRW 6.7 only has 10k miles on it now but it is 6 years old so I'd like to change the fluid in both diffs and transfer the case before it sits another winter. I'm never going to hit 30k or whatever the "normal" service interval is.

Yes. The P30 LSD from a CLS63 uses a different rear differential cover than the E55. The bolt pattern and overall length of the cover are different, which is why your E55 heat sink is too short and won’t line up. You likely have the CLS63-style rear cover on that differential. To make the heat sink fit, you’ll need to swap to an E55 rear diff cover.
