Anyone notice this.........

Today went to work and put a light soft briefcase on the passenger front seat.
The seatbelt light and alarm came on for the passenger. I had to stop the car, take the key out of the ignition, put the brief in the backseat, and start it up again. I know there are sensors in the seat, but man you mean to tell me that you cant put anything on the passenger front seat??????? Is this a malfunction???????

Same thing here. It does it when my wife is driving it and has her purse in it. It has done it to me with a fastfood bag in the seat. I've had the same malfunction once where even when I removed it from the seat, it kept beeping. Very annoying.

It's just the side airbag sensor. If something's on the seat and the sensor feels it to be uneasy ot whatever, it'll go off. This same thing happens in my MDX and when I had the RSX...

Wow, it's small things like what Mercedes-Benz does to keep their drivers/passengers safe. I think I should consider purchasing a MB vehicle as my next driver.

Its a federally mandated safety feature for all 2005 US cars. The airbag turns off or is reduced when it senses a light person sitting in the passenger seat.

Yes...you should...in fact go to the dealer today, but dont look them directly in the eye. And whatever you do, dont go on a test drive!! Note* Mercedes Benz vehicles are highly addictive to drive and own. Please forward this memo to your checkbook.

There's a nice piece on smart airbags in this month's Car and Driver on page 11 written by the editor. Just out of curiosity eagleeye, what happens if you buckle in your briefcase with the seatbelt?

The problem is the 10 minutes of seatbelt beeping that accompanies there being 2 lbs on the seat.

Mine started beeping with a notebook on the seat a week or so ago. I removed the notebook and it didnt go away. Now I keep the belt buckled. Gonna take it in next week maybe for an oil change and have that seatbelt sensor adjusted or fixed.
