New Headlights!!

Hey y’all, these beauties came in the mail today, suuuper excited to throw them in, but I fear that I might be missing something or not as knowledgeable on the process. I was wanting to know if there’s anyone that’s done a job like this to their E55? I want to make sure I have absolutely everything I need for the whole thing so nothing breaks, or if I’m missing anything, fragile spots or screws, etc. I’ve watched some YouTube vids on the process and everything but I know the forum is where the real experts reside

I mean unless you’re opening them up there isn’t too much to it.

You’re gonna love this one… I go to put them in and everything is going exactly as planned so smooth but there’s one problem. The connections for one of the ballasts were different… I call the support line from whom I got them from, they said “oh you have the TOP of the line E-class Mercedes” I said “yeah I guess” he said “the thing you’re looking at that’s wrong is the ballast for the motor that moves the headlight bulb up and down, left and right, unfortunately those headlights you got do not have that, you can still use them but the bulb won’t move up and down and such and it’ll also throw an error code on your dash telling you that motor is out because it can’t find it.” And let me tell you man that broke my heart just absolutely shattered it.

As soon as you posted that picture I knew those wouldn't work but you were too pumped. I ran into the same problem when I replaced my lights (I bought different lights than you) and found out the connectors were wrong. I ended up ordering these:

It moved the bulb in the direction the steering wheel turns I’m pretty sure. When I bought the car it was my first time hearing about them too.

I believe my car came with them originally but I never saw them work. I bought this set because outside of this option is the OEM option.

Active headlights are code 615. Code them out as "Not installed" using STAR/Xentry. If an error, you will receive an error message on the instrument cluster referencing the failing/failed headlight.

So I can just use a OBD2 scanner and code them out and it won’t give me a message on the cluster anymore? I also don’t have the correct ballast for it. The ballast that moves the motor in my current ones have a different connection than these, idk if it’s NEEDED or if it can stay unplugged.

Go here to put your VIN in to see if your lights are active.

lastvin.com

code 615

if you need active lights you either have to buy OEM or get reg HID headlights and code them out using STAR

I checked and I don’t have 615 option on my car.

I recently bought these. They are very decent (7/10) but not OEM at all. I am going to swap all my OEM internals into them to make them better.

Do those replace the halogen lights or is it only for the cars that came with the upgraded xenon lights?

These are only for the xenon light cars. You can't upgrade to these.

Correct. OEM was around 1800 per light so I opted for the cheaper route after talking to my buddy who works in the autobody industry. No point buying OEM because in a accident, the insurance company will replace with aftermarket anyways.
