7-speed tranny on W211 E55

I was told by my dealer when I picked up my car as well as the regional manager of service in Saudi Arabia that all 2005 E55 had 7-speed tranny is that true I remember reading that AMG will not have it. If this is true how can I find out while driving the car?

Regards,
Mattar

The W211 E55 to this date has not had the 7-Gtronic transmission. The 7 speed cant handle the torque generated by the engine, thus it will be a while before you see the 7 speed in an AMG.

You dont, and you can ask your dealer. You have the 5 spd. One way to check is to shift the car yourself. Use the paddles or the gear selector. It will only go up to 5 and not any higher, meaning you have a 5spd transmission.

It does as it is a part of the Winter mode. But in essence you still dont have 7 forward gears and 2 reverse gears like the new 7 GTronic transmission.

MB FANATIC:

Just a point of correction (a technicallity, actualy) you said it will be a while till we see a 7 speed tranny on an AMG. The new SLK55 is an AMG (albeit, not supercharged) and it has the new 7-G tranny.

The SLK has the 7G because it has under 400lb torque.

I have the 7G in my E500 and it is amazing.. It really feels like one big gear. It is soooo smooth. You can't feel the gear changes unless you force it to change or step on it.
