I like the E55 a lot, nice body, awesome interior en a fast supercharged engine; but I recently saw a review @ topgear and that guy said something about the E55 that wasn’t really positive.

I don't know what the exact Mercedes term is, but there is a system in the car that always adjusts the car on the road. And when driving you notice a lot that the car is always adjusting and correcting his movements. The reviewer found that a bit annoying.

So im asking u; what does he mean by that and is it really annoying? If so.. can it be turned off?

I think he is talkin about ESP. ESP will brake each individual wheel to keep the car on course.

Also he could have been referring to the somewhat dissapointing steering rack on the E55.

ESP will also cut power from the engine, which to some, is really irritating.

There is a thread about turning off the ESP completely for dyno testing a few mos back. A button on the dash can turn off ESP partially but if you really get out of wack it will intervene. It just gives you a longer leash. I turned mine completely off for a few runs and it definitely will run faster times as you become skillful at using part throttle and slowly accelerating to prevent wheel spin.

I think the ESP is necessary to keep ME out of the ditch. Unfortunately E55 doesn't have a limited slip differential so once it starts to get sideways it does a donut rather than come back the other way like most "muscle" cars with LSD do.

I am looking into the LSD mod by Kleemann I think. Anyone know how much it might cost for such a mod?

My bet is that he was talking about ESP also. Thing is, almost every modern car has an electronic stability program and the only time that it kicks in is when you're sliding somewhere off course. Unless the guys a moron who drives like an idiot and thinks he drives like a genious, he must be talking about something else.

If you drive like a fool to see how you can best crash the car then the car will take over and TRY to stop you. For some reason there are people that find this inconvenient.
