Downshfting question in E63

Dear all,
I would like to ask when driving with S/C mode, as I press the downshift paddle, the gear changes to first gear rather than going down one by one? Is that normal and is it possible to reset and avoid going right down to first gear? Thanks!

what gear and speed are you driving. should not be going to 1st gear if you're in a speed specified for a higher gear.

So it will go from 4 to 1??????????? Um, are you holding and not letting go? I am not sure that makes a difference.

It was around 40km/h, I guess it was 3/4 th gear in S mode. I was going uphill and wanted to downshift one gear, it just went all the way down to first gear rather than going down one gear.

I can tell you that in my E63, it will just drop one gear. Unless I hold the paddle down, then it suppose to drop to the lowest allowable gear.
But it shouldn't go from 4th to 1st, as that sends a tremendous shock load thru the drivetrain. Just imagine that your doing 60 mph, and you decide to drop 1 gear, to accelerate past a vehicle in front of you.
When all the sudden your transmission goes to 1st gear, that definitely isn't a good outcome.

Thanks very much for your information, I wonder if that is the problem of the TCM unit?

You need to have it diagnose for faults codes. Granted, I'm no expert, but I do know that in my E63, it's like a failsafe, if either the RPMs are too high, or the speed, it simply won't let you downshift to 1st gear, until either the RPM or the speed are in the perimeter to safely allow it.
