Shift to Neutral or Park HELP!

Got this in my e55. Won't start even in park or neutral. Have to play with it then it starts up. Sometimes it'll start and the dash will still say "p" and the tranny will clunk into gear so I restart it and it's fine again. Is it the shifter link bushings? It does make a metal clicking sound when I shift from park>drive or vise versa.

The shifter is electronic and must report the current selection. Your best bet, as a starting point, should be to pull all the codes using MB Star or something equal to see what is reported.

Or at least look under the car at the shift rod bushing.

Scanned it and got P240C code and another code that read “Selector lever position detection has failed.” So safe to say I may need an electronic shifter module. I saw one on eBay which offers a rebuilt module that works on w211’s. So I may go that route with new shifter link bushings while I’m in there. https://www.ebay.com/itm/11546213314...mis&media=COPY

Shifter has failed. Happened to me in my E55.

$18 shifter pulled from a 2006 CLS in the local junk yard and it was fixed. New part at dealer was $750.

does your paddle shifters and C/S/M buttons work? Someone told me they won’t work if you swap modules.

Everything works.
From what I found in WIS, a "brand new in the box" from the dealer must be coded upon initial install. Once coded, however, it can be pulled and will work in any other model that uses the same shifter.
