Subwoofer question!

Guys where is our stock subwoofer located and what size is it?

Would it be possible to fit stronger woofer in the same place?

I want some more bass but i dont want to put a box in a trunk, Because i have no ski pass and because I dont have folding seats.

Anyone with aftermarket system post your pics too!

Don't ride on dubs, but got twin subs, and still got room for 2 sets of clubs!

Bob, the factory "sub" in the rear deck with the two tiny mid/high range speakers is all one piece. You cant remove the small bass speaker in the center without also removing the whole unit. I had to have the whole unit removed to fit the enclosure as well as to allow the bass free access to the cabin. Now I have a more forward sounding system for the mids and highs, but with so much bass coming from the rear it is hard to notice the difference. The sound is much better now.

i'll post a picture this week of what i did bob. i've been grappling with the same problem as you. i had the rear sub removed (they cut it out), and had a JL 500/1 amp installed. they are currently making a custom box which will hold a 10" sub. it will be small, side firing, and fit in the right far corner of the trunk. i currently just have a regular box (unfitted) firing sideways. the enclosure is small, about 11" by 13" on its side. volume of about .61 cubic feet. the bass currently sounds great. with that small of a box, i was required to use a much beefier amp.

I was more concerned with sound quality than big boomy bass. So this setup provides for quite an amount of bass, but its very tight and clear. Only on high volumes does the trunk rattle a little bit, and I just need to trace what is moving in there, or possibly throw some duramat in a couple of areas. I used a JL 500/1 amp. I still have not braced the sub to the trunk, but this is what it will look like. Minimizes footprint and maximizes trunk space.

Very nice!!! I like your setup very much! I think i'll do somthing like that, do you hear the bass well inside? Or do you have a skipass or folding seats? My concern is how would it go inside?!

thanks bob!

go inside your trunk and look up. you'll see a circular metal "thing". beyond that is the subwoofer. my installer cut out my subwoofer so the bass could travel through that small hole into the cabin. it actually works quite well.

you need a good driver that can accept a small volume (mine is .61 cubic feet). pm me if you want box dimensions.

Lol. I noticed that when I posted. Always a boy scout. Tools. Headlamp. Gloves. Needed cleaning supplies.

do the E55's have a spare tire??

since my C32 did not come with a spare tire, i put my amp, and sub in the spare tire well. the reason i did that was so my mother could never tell i had those goodies in the trunk. i fit a JL 500 amp and a 12 inch sub in there.. also, i have a knob near my knees to control them..

the installer made a box to fit in the spare tire well so it doesn't move, and made a new trunk lining(?) with a speaker cover type material just above the speaker, and covered on top with carpeting.

my mother can't tell, i still have full use of my trunk space, and i have bass.

Do you happen to know how the amp is signalled to turn on. Did you use a remote wire to the amp located in the trunk? Or did you use a line voltage sensing solonoid?

Very nice set up. I am still in search for the perfect bass. My bass tone still is too boomy at times and lost at others.

thanks! i ran the wire myself actually since the installers did not. there is a 12v plug to your left when you open the trunk. i just ran about 6 feet of 18 gauge speaker wire (one strand) from the amp trigger (12v) to the black lead off of that plug. i had an extra plug from my valentine 1 install (not sure what you call it, but i just clamped it down over the black wire and it tapped into the juice there. i connected the trigger wire to that and hid it behind the panels.)
